The Capsule 8/17/18
Home of the Rockets
At Eastridge Elementary our mission is to develop a community of lifelong learners who will positively impact society.
Hello Eastridge families!
It's hard to believe that we have been in school for three full weeks already. The saying "Time flies when you're having fun," is so true! This week our students worked hard on their beginning of the year NWEA assessment. NWEA assessments are given in both Math and English Language Arts. These assessments give the teachers information on what next steps we can take to better personalize each child’s learning. We also use this information to help set academic and growth goals for our school. We are extremely proud of all of our students efforts! Later this month, we will be sharing specific information with you via midterm reports regarding your child’s results.
As always, thank you for allowing Eastridge to educate your child.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Johnson

Most classes began checking out library books this week. Parents, help your child develop the love of reading by reading with them. Please help your student show responsibility by returning their library book each week. By doing so, they get to checkout a different book and someone gets to read the book they returned. We suggest students keep the library book in their backpack so it hopefully it will be at school with them on library day. Enjoy a book with your child!
Also, the library has monarch caterpillars. We are watching them eat milkweed and grow bigger. We are hoping to see them turn into chrysalis and then a butterflies.
Parents get free books for your child. Purchase a qualifying Kellogg's product then submit your receipt at Kellogg's Family Rewards website for a free book. Spread the joy of reading with your own home library!
We are off to a great start!! Already your students are getting to know or refreshed on what dino brain is, and how to control anger with coping skills of their choice. I have already reached to many of you about how to best support your student. Remember - I am here to support your student and you! We offer a different options for your child’s mental health/counseling needs, and I can help navigate that! In the coming weeks I will be putting together an attendance club to work with students who seem to be missing school - We love our students and want them here as much as possible! Here are some talking points to discuss with your student:
How are you working to follow directions in class?
What is dino brain? How do you get back into front brain?
How can you show C.O.R.E. even when you’re upset?
What strategies can you use to ignore people who may not be your friend, while still showing Respect?
Why do you come to school? Parents, use this as a chance to really talk with your kids about the importance of coming to school to learn and gain knowledge. It is important to make friends and enjoy it, but it is equally important to come to school focused and ready to learn!
Always reach out to me if you have any questions! Just call the front office and ask for Mr. Phillips :)
Wellness Policy
In compliance with the district's wellness policy, please DO NOT send in a food item for your child's birthday. We encourage you to donate your child's favorite book to their classroom, arrange a time for a game or craft in the classroom, send in party hats for your students class or send in stickers or cards.
