Newsletter Week 7, Term 1

Huirangi Primary School, Tuesday 15th March 2022

Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!

This fortnight's newsletter is written with a heavy heart. COVID has hit us hard. I can confirm we have cases in every class, apart from He Puāwai, who are still going strong! As of today we have 19 children and 3 adults who have tested positive. We also have a number of families and a teacher in isolation. The decision to close the Junior School and to merge Rooms 3 and 4 was not an easy one, and I thank those of you who it has affected for being so understanding. To everyone who is sick and/or isolating, I wish you and your whānau a speedy recovery.

For those of us still at school, everyone's health and safety is my first priority. We remain vigilant with our cleaning and hygiene. Most importantly, we will ensure that school is as happy and stress-free as possible.

Kia kaha,

Natalie Looney

Person of Character

At last week's draw, the following childrens names were drawn out:- Ollie Podevin [10 point orange card] for making positive choices, Aidan Young, Ziana Webb-Podevin and Aroha Morehu all for completing their Room 4 Maths challenge, Austin Rowe for super tidying up, Katie Alldridge for being a helpful tech tutor, Sophie Brett and Ariana Morehu for super homework. Congratulations all !

Swimming Sports

We ran our annual Swimming Sports last Friday, despite having nearly 1/3 of the school away. It was a nice opportunity for the tamariki to get out and have some fun!

Swimming Sports was ran in classes this year. Although smaller, the atmosphere was still happy and loud!

I was very impressed to see the level of swimming across the school. Everyone's confidence and skill has improved since the beginning of our lessons 5 weeks ago. Having a swim coach teach our tamariki has truly paid off! Ka mutu pea! (How marvelous!)

Thanks again to Todd Energy for their support to make this possible.

School Mobile App

Please let your wider whānau know about our free school app ! Access this on your mobile phone by downloading the app SchoolAppsNZ and search for 'Huirangi'. Subscribe to the group you wish to get notifications for and you're done!

This is the best way we can effectively communicate the same message to all parents, at once.
