The Riverwalk Roar
December 15, 2019
Note from Dr. Compton
Pride,
We made it! At the conclusion of this week, we will have made it to the half-way point in the school year. I cannot wait to see the confusion of all the student's faces on Friday when we announce, "see you next year." I've discovered a lot this year, but one thing for sure is that I can get away with jokes like that with our elementary school students. Our middle and high school students will just look at me and say, "Compton, that was a bad dad joke."
In all seriousness, as 2019 comes to an end, I wanted to take just a minute to say "thank you" for allowing Riverwalk Academy to be part of your child's life. Each of your children is a gift to our staff and it's a gift that we do not take for granted. We are lucky and blessed to have the awesome opportunity to teach your child. For this, I greatly thank you.
As I think about putting 2019 behind me and preparing for 2020, I'll spend some time over the next few weeks reflecting. I'll spend time reflecting on what went well, what didn't, and what I need to focus on in 2020. I'll set personal goals, professional goals, and Riverwalk Goals.
I'd encourage you and your child to do the same. Here are some simple conversation starters for your child as you help them "grow" into 2020:
- What did I accomplish? What am I most grateful for?
- What are my areas to improve on?
- How did I feel throughout the year? Describe the past year in feelings.
- When did I feel inspired and alive, and why?
- How did I grow and change?
- What "one word" is going to be your goal (or reoccurring theme) in 2020?
On behalf of all of Riverwalk Academy and our Pride, I sincerely wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season and a prosperous new year.
Sincerely,
~Dr. Compton

Attraction Books - A message from our 10th grade students
Hello, families and students of Riverwalk Academy! We are in the 10th-grade Impact class that is facilitated by Ms. Davis. We are here to introduce you to a fundraiser we are hosting right now, The Attractions Coupon Book! The Attractions Coupon Book is full of coupons that are good for many restaurants and businesses in the greater York County area. The books are only $20 and most families who buy the book save an average of $373.60 a year! We are raising money to work on creating spaces on our campus that will benefit the Riverwalk students and staff.
Each student was sent home with a book to sell (more will be sent home once orders are collected). We will collect orders on Mondays and Wednesdays and distribute ordered books on Tuesdays and Thursdays from now until December 19th. Please return payment using the envelope we sent home, or pay online using EZPay (directions can be found on the envelopes provided)! For every 5 books sold online using EZPay you will get 1 additional book free (no limit)! If you chose to not purchase the book that was sent home just return the book in the collection envelope to your child’s teacher on or before December 16th. All sales need to be sent in by December 19th.
Thank you for your support!
Questions can be sent to our class through our advisor, Ms. Davis, at sdavis@riverwalkacademy.com.
