Caldwell School District Update
From Superintendent Dr. N. Shalene French
March 17, 2022
Spotlight on Community Engagement
With support from Caldwell Fine Arts, second and third grade students at Lewis and Clark Elementary had the opportunity to participate in the Time to Dream Art Project. Students created paintings depicting what they want to be when they grow up. Students were then able to present their "dream" to the rest of the school at a special art show.
"To be able to partner with Caldwell Fine Arts and to get the supplies for the students, and then to put that together [art show], I think has touched a lot of lives," said Cassie Doxtator, 2nd Grade Teacher at Lewis and Clark.
In addition, members of the College of Idaho Football Team helped wrap up Dr. Seuss week with fifth grade students at Lewis and Clark. The football players spoke with students about what it takes to be a student-athlete.
Thank you to Caldwell Fine Arts and the College of Idaho for supporting our students!
2C Kids Week
On Monday, March, 7, 2022, students at Caldwell and Canyon Springs High Schools were greeted with messages of hope on the sidewalks.
"When students see stuff like this [Chalk the Walk], and know that people came out and put their time in to leave messages of hope, to let them know that their life matters and to make sure they smile everyday, I think it's very important and very impactful," said Alexander Zuniga, 2018 Caldwell High School Alumni.
We would also like to recognize all of the community members who helped make this week possible. Thank you for supporting our students!
Caldwell High School Student Council shines at IASC conference
During the Idaho Association of Student Councils conference, Caldwell High School received the Outstanding Student Council Award for the eighth year in a row and the 2022 IASC State Service Project award!
Caldwell High School Student Council is the epitome of service and leadership and they represented Caldwell incredibly well.
"Caldwell High School cares so much about their community and even though we may be an underdog, we are still showing up and we are still coming out ahead," said Andrea Arnold, CHS Student Council Advisor.
During the two day conference, students had the opportunity to learn leadership skills, offer "breakout" sessions, share ideas, and meet peers all across Idaho. Over 800 students were in attendance from 33 schools across the State.
Governor Little signs Empowering Parents Grant bill into law at Sacajawea Elementary
It was an honor to host Governor Brad Little at Sacajawea Elementary for the bill signing of Empowering Parents Grant (SB 1255). Many Caldwell families benefited from last year's Strong Families, Strong Students grants. Caldwell families are foundational to Idaho's economy. When families are empowered, our community is stronger, and we help our children thrive.
"Empowering families allows them to overcome barriers so their kids can be successful and maybe have opportunities they did not have. Families are ready to make all kinds of sacrifices to make that happen," said Paul Webster, Principal of Sacajawea Elementary.
The Empowering Parent Grant will provide $50,000 in grant funds to help Idaho Families.

Congratulations to the Jefferson Middle School Academic Bowl team for their award winning season! The team won the Championship and claimed first place in overall league standings.
The Jefferson team has a competitive fire and [their] work ethic is incredible. They are the best Academic Bowl Team their coach has ever seen. "You should be proud of yourselves," said Mr. Saunders.
We also want to congratulate our academic bowl team from Syringa Middle School. They finished second, which led to a Caldwell sweep in the academic bowl competition.

Summer Bridge Academy
Last year, the Summer Bridge Academy was a great experience for our K-8 students.
With such positive feedback from students, families, and teachers, the Caldwell School District will be offering extended learning opportunities for students again this summer.
The Summer Bridge Academy is an opportunity for students to enrich their learning. Teachers prepare interactive activities for K-8 students. Classes will also be offered for students transitioning from fifth grade to middle school or from 8th grade to high school, which gives these students a chance to learn more about their new school prior to start of classes in the fall.
Thank you to our teachers and staff for preparing and providing these opportunities for our students.
Watch for more information from your child's school about the Summer Bridge Academy.
Parent Engagement Survey
One of the pieces of Idaho’s school accountability system is a parent survey. This survey asks parents for their input on several topics to help measure how schools are doing.
To access the survey, click here. Choose your student’s school from the drop-down menu.
(If you have students in multiple schools within our district, please complete the survey for each school your students attend in order to help us receive the most accurate information.)
The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete and your responses are anonymous. You can submit your survey until April 1, 2022.
Child Tax Credit
If you have children under 18 in your household, you’re likely eligible for up to $3,600 per child from the federal government.
This is not a loan and doesn’t impact public benefits. Receiving these benefits will not impact eligibility for other federal benefits such as UI, Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, SDI, TANF, WIC, Section 8 or Public Housing.
To make sure you and your family get all of the tax credits you are eligible to receive you will need to file your taxes by April 18, 2022. ChildTaxCredit.gov has easy to share information about how families and individuals can get the full payment they are owed this year.
You can determine if you are eligible here or find free resources to help you get your Child Tax Credit.
Thank you Caldwell for supporting the Supplemental Levy!
