5th Grade Bingo Night

Smart Devices
We are seeing an uptick in the number of smart devices in the school, and it’s causing some issues between students and in the classroom. According to School Board Policy 237, personal smart devices, including smart phones and watches are not permitted for use by students during the school day. This includes to and from school while on the bus. I’m asking for parents’ help with keeping smart devices at home and talking with the kids about how/when to use them appropriately.

National Day of Unplugging
We also encourage families to consider taking Friday and Saturday to "Unplug and Connect." Ideas about what to do can be found on the National Day of Unplugging website.
Flexible Instructional Days (FID) 2022-2023
A Flexible Instructional Day (FID) is a program available to public school districts to be used as an alternative approach to delivering instruction if a circumstance arises that prevents instruction in a customary manner (i.e. “snow days”) or in the event of an emergency, such as a power outage. Implementing FID(s) eliminates the need for make-up days in the event of school cancellations.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) counts FIDs as full days of school. The West Chester Area School District (WCASD) has been approved to use up to five (5) FIDs per school year. On an FID, teachers will provide learning assignments for the students to complete at home on a day that otherwise would have to be made up. Students will receive assignments for each class that would have met during a regular school day.
How will I know if WCASD is implementing a Flexible Instructional Day (FID)?
If a storm is forecasted, school principals will send advance notice of a potential FID to ensure students and staff have time to prepare to participate in school from home.
Once the Superintendent announces a FID, all families will receive communication via telephone, text message and email as they currently do in the event of school closings and delays. The school day would then be conducted virtually for all students.
All students will have access to a district device to participate in synchronous and asynchronous learning for a FID.
Elementary students will:
continue the day rotation on a FID.
not report to school.
log into their learning platform, either Seesaw or Schoology, by 9:00 a.m.
complete assignments that teachers provide and submit the assignments within three school days of the FID.
be provided the day's schedule for both synchronous (zoom meetings) and asynchronous work that will be posted on either Seesaw or Schoology.
complete lessons for classes that are typically scheduled for the day including specials such as physical education, health, art, music, library and counseling.
