SVE Diversity Team!

This year, Sunset Valley established a new student leadership team to focus around the diverse needs of our school community. The SVE Student Diversity Leadership Team developed a goal to create an atmosphere of empathy and acceptance of all cultures, ethnicities, and disabilities. Through the leadership of the students, we wanted to create new learning opportunities for our staff and all of our SVE students. The students on this team have been learning what diversity means and how to be genuinely interested in learning about others. Our differences do not define us, but allow us to make unique contributions. The student team and their staff facilitators, held a school-wide Diversity Day on November 20th. The day consisted of student leaders sharing about diversity and reading a book entitled, Whoever You Are by: Mem Fox, to our primary classrooms. The 4th-6th grade classrooms participated in a breakout box activity that taught them about diversity, unfair stereotypes, and other cultures. We are better when we work with others that are different than us! It was a great day of learning from each other!
