Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had another busy week in school and we are starting to notice signs of spring around the grounds. I have enjoyed watching the children play and work outside this week as the weather has been warmer and it has been lovely to feel the sunshine on our faces.

Next week in school is Children's Mental Health week and all classes will be taking some time to focus on this topic with our children at an age appropriate level. We are very lucky to have good pastoral support in school with our use of the Thrive programme and specialist support from Mrs Bamforth and all classes spend time knowing what they can do to look after their mental health as well as their physical health. Why not talk to your child about it and spend some time focussing on this aspect of their health?

On Tuesday our Digital Leaders will be leading an assembly on Safer Internet Day which ties in well with Children's Mental Health Week as we know that poor mental health in children can be driven by what they see online whether that is films which are not age appropriate, pressure from social media or unsupervised viewing of apps such as Youtube. The Safer Internet Day website has lots of information and resources for both parents and children should you require further advice.

Finally this week saw the celebration of Candlemas in the church's year. Rev. Paulie came to lead worship on Wednesday and taught the children about Jesus being presented in the Temple and the perseverance of Anna and Simeon.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Karen Williams

World Book Day - Thursday 3rd March

It is the 25th anniversary of World Book Day on the 3rd March, and we are planning a great day full of all things literary. As part of our celebrations, children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. We particularly love the outfits that have been made from recycled things from around the home, so please don't think you need to spend money on a costume. We would also like children and their families to create a ‘book in a box’ celebrating their favourite story. This can be in a shoe box, cereal box, or even in a match box! If your child would like to make a ‘book in a box’ they need to bring it in on World Book Day, when we will display them in the hall for the whole school to see. Further information about the exciting things we will be doing, will be detailed in a newsletter nearer the time.

Lost Property

A reminder we still have a box full of unnamed items. Please do look through if your child is missing anything and remember to name all items. Thank you

NYES Catering Competition

NYES Catering are excited to announce that their fantastic one-off opportunity to design their new mascot is NOW LIVE!

Brief

- We want to inspire primary and secondary pupils to get creative and design our new mascot based on what they would like to see from a catering mascot. Will they have powers, or be food related, or be a team with a leading mascot, or have sibling mascots (one for primary schools, one for secondary schools) – the pupils are the deciders in this one-off competition!

We’ve even enlisted the help of a 12-year old who previously attended one of our catered primary schools and loves superheroes as well as food – so we feel he will be a fantastic help in deciding the winner! He will be assisted by 2 of our in-house judges. We are all really looking forward to seeing all of the brilliant designs, and hearing about what the mascot designed means to the pupils, and the fun they have creating them.
The winner will see their mascot design come to life! This includes within our marketing from September 2022 and beyond.

How to enter

- Simply email your designed mascot (and it’s name) to: charlotte.firth@northyorks.gov.uk

Please include your pupil’s name, age, and details of the school they attend.

Deadline: 17:00 on Saturday 12th February 2022.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday 23rd February 2022.

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with the latest competition developments!

Maximum age to enter is 18.

The best of luck to all – time to get creative!
