1st-5th grade First Day of School Information

Arrival procedures

We wanted to take a moment to share our arrival procedures with you. They do look different this year due to the Safely Reopen and social distancing guidelines. Our normal first day procedures would have allowed you to walk your child to the classroom. Due to the pandemic, we will NOT be able to do this. We have some other options that we would like to share with you. Drop off will be from 7:45-8:10. We would like all students in class ready to start by 8:10 a.m.

Car Line-

You can drop your child off in the car line. We will have staff members available to walk them down to the classroom.

Kinder-2nd grade-There is a gate in the front and the back of the building that you can enter and follow the side walk to the pod door. The 1st and 2nd grade pod is located on the side of the building opposite of the new playground. You can park in the front/side parking and walk through the front gate or in the gym parking and go through the back gate. We will have staff members available to walk them from the pod door to the classroom. Kinder can be dropped off at the pod door on this day also.

3rd-5th grade pod dropoff-

You can park and walk your child to the grade level pod door. You can enter from the front gate by the new playground or the back gate by the new parking lot. 3rd grade pod door is closest to Hwy 3, 4th grade is in middle and 5th is closest to the back of the building.

If your child rides the bus or daycare van, they will be dropped off by the gym and will be escorted to class by staff members.

We know this might be different than you envisioned but these options are the safest for our students and staff.

Starting day 2, all car riders will need to be dropped off in car rider line on the side of the building. You will not be able to walk them to grade level pod door.

Please make sure your child's teacher knows how your child will go home!

Please make sure your child's teacher knows how your child will get home. This is very important! We ask that all changes be made in writing. You are welcome to call the front office to make sure they got the note. We know that sometimes students may forget to get the note out or the teacher may not see it in the folder.

Car Riders- If your child is a car rider- we ask that students enter and exit the car from the passenger side. Please do not get out of your car. We will assist in getting the student out of the car. Please make sure students have their mask on before you come to a stop. We will have a high volume of cars so we want all students prepared to get out of the car as quickly as possible. In the afternoon, you can pull into the parking lot to buckle your child if you need to. We ask that you do not do it in the car line as it holds up dismissal.

Please pay attention to the dismissal map below.

Walker Procedures

Due to social distancing guidelines, we are changing our walker dismissal procedures. Our walkers will be exiting out the gates by the old playground. If you need to park to walk up to meet your children, you will need to park in the neighborhood and walk up the sidewalk. The parking lot by the gym is reserved for staff only parking and the driveway is to only be used by buses and daycare. This is why we have moved our walker dismissal area away from the daycare and bus dismissal spots. The majority of our walkers live in the neighborhood. In the morning, parents will not be allowed to drop off students in the back. We will no longer have a crosswalk person in the back. If they are a walker, they will come up the sidewalk in morning and enter the gym through the gym doors. For K-2 walker dismissal, parents will need to show a green id card so that we can release your child to you. 3-5 grade walkers will not have a card since the majority of them walk alone or ride a bike and will be dismissed through the gate.

Bus information

If your child is going to ride the bus, you can log into Skyward to find the bus stop/time for morning and afternoon. Please be sure to be out a little early until the routes get "settled". The times could change a little when the other grade levels start riding the bus on Sept. 14th. Please make sure you have enabled SMS text messaging through Skyward. If a bus is running late, we will try to quickly send out an email and text message so that you know what is happening.

If your child will be going home by daycare, you may want to reach out to them and make sure they are aware that your child will need to be picked up. Please notify them of any transportation changes.

Please be patient during dismissal. Social distancing makes our processes take longer!

Update from Nurse Burke

Parr Elementary’s school nurse is Allison Burke RN, BSN and the clinic aide is Brianna Lombardi. Please notify the nurse if your child has a medical condition, life-threatening allergy, or needs to take medication while at school. Any information you can provide to help us care for your child while at school is appreciated.

Here are some things you can do to help your child have a healthy school year:

  1. Make sure to complete the self-screener with your child daily before coming to school (including taking their temp).
  2. Keep your child home if they are sick or if they cannot pass the self-screener.

(If your child cannot pass the screener, please fill out the “Wellness Check” on Skyward Family Access to let us know.)

  1. Make sure your phone numbers and emergency contacts are updated in Skyward.
  2. Please pack an extra change of clothes for your child to keep in their backpack all year.
  3. Review with your child how to, and the importance of, wearing their mask, washing their hands, and watching their distance when they return to school.

If you need to contact Nurse Burke you can email her at or call the clinic at 281-284-4113

Family Reminders from the District

Family Reminders

  1. All parents/guardians are required to conduct a COVID-19 self-health assessment prior to sending their children to school every day. Click here for the health assessment.
  2. If a child has one or more symptoms, he/she must stay home.
  3. Parents are asked to self-report symptoms by logging into Skyward Family Access and complete the form on the home screen. This will notify the school that the child will be absent and give the school nurse information to follow-up.
  4. Make sure your child has a face covering that covers the nose and mouth. If you need an accommodation, please contact the school principal.
  5. Pack a water bottle since water fountains will not be accessible. Refillable water stations will be available. At Parr we have two water bottle refill stations-- one at the front of the building by the library restrooms and a second at the back of the building by the gym restrooms.
  6. Consider packing a lunch for the first week.

Child Nutrition Back to School Information

Please consider sending your child with a lunch the first few days of school. This will make the back to school transition easier for your child. Please try to make sure that they can open most of the containers/packages in their lunch box. Please take time to set up their lunch account online and make sure they money available for lunch. Through their online account you are also able to set restrictions as to snacks and quantities of items students can order. If students do not have money in their account, they are allowed to borrow money from the principal's account. We ask that the money be sent back to school the next day. The easiest way to make sure that your child has money to to use the online payment option.

The deadline for accepting referrals for students in grades 1 – 12 is October 1, 2020. The deadline for accepting referrals for students in kindergarten is December 1, 2020. Social Distancing

Students will be practicing social distancing throughout the school day. Have your child practice respecting personal boundaries of others and maintaining their own personal space. Have them visualize themselves inside a hula hoop.

The district is requiring all students to wear face masks while social distancing measures are in place. They will need to cover your child's nose and mouth. We recommend labeling your child's mask. Another good idea is to have 5 masks so they have a clean mask everyday. We will have a limited supply of masks available in case students forget a mask or lose it during the day.

Water Bottles

Please make sure your child has a large, NON-SPILL water bottle that your child can open by themselves. Your child will have the opportunity to refill the bottle during day from the classroom sink, water bottle filler station on campus or you can send an extra plastic water bottle in their backpack.
