Principal's Message
Dear Klein Cain Families & Community,
Can you believe it????? We are FINALLY here! The 2020-2021 school year has begun and we are off to an amazing start! Who could have ever imagined that when we closed back in March that it would be September (and 187 days) before we got to see our kids again?!?! Many of us gave our kids a hug, fist bump, high five or a wave as they left for Spring Break back on March 6th, thinking we would see them in just a week. That certainly was the LONGEST WEEK OF SPRING BREAK EVER!
But, they are back! Our kids are back and our Hurricane family is whole again! And...we have grown over these last several months! We have gained almost 500 students and their families, as well as 80+ new staff members! Now, here we are almost one month into the 20-21 school year and there are almost 4000 chances for more fist bumps, high fives, smiles, air hugs and waves to share with our kids, their families and each other.
No matter how our kids have joined us to start this year, they are ALL still valued members of our campus and part of our EVERY. I have no doubt that EVERY one of our staff members will do whatever it takes to meet our kids WHERE THEY ARE and help them achieve amazing things this year! Back in the Spring, it was no surprise that our Hurricane faculty & staff came together to rise to the challenge of teaching during a pandemic. They finished the year with the same perseverance and resilience they had on Day #1. But, what our staff and students have been able to accomplish over the last several weeks is nothing short of astonishing!
In true Klein Cain fashion, we are all history-making Hurricanes! Aside from our Class of 2021 being the first-ever senior class to have attended Klein Cain HS for all 4 years of their high school career, no one else, in the history of education, has had to work as hard at being innovative enough to teach and learn during a global pandemic. Our teachers have learned new virtual ways of teaching. Our students have learned new virtual ways of learning. Teachers have changed, tweaked, rewrote, added to and adjusted lesson plans more than any of us probably ever thought possible. Our students and teachers have shown unwavering courage and support, for themselves and each other, when faced with obstacles that seemed insurmountable. I am so proud that they have conquered those once-thought insurmountable obstacles with success beyond our wildest dreams.
I appreciate all of the hard work that EVERYONE has put into our first month back! I am so proud of the way our kids have handled this new way of life, in terms of school these days. They have shown the resilience and fortitude we all knew they possess! As each days passes, we will surely face more challenges and more tweaks that will undoubtedly need to take place, as we continue to navigate through all of this unknown. But, this environment we are finding ourselves in brings us opportunities to see the smiling faces of our kids, whether in person or on Zoom! It gives us more opportunities to connect to our why and our purpose. It gives us more opportunities for ALL of us to make a difference!
As we embark on the craziest adventure any of us have ever been on, I want you to remember that we are a family. And this family is one that I would choose over and over again to accomplish what is being asked of us. We are in this together, and it's time to show our community, our district, and anyone else who chooses to take notice, that when it comes to the 2020-2021 school year, we are living our our theme for this year on a daily basis: In the Eye of the Storm, We Control Our C's. We are calm, centered, curious, connected and courageous...we are Klein Cain Hurricanes!
Thank you to all of you for your continued support of our amazing campus. I am proud of the home we have created for our Hurricane family and cannot wait to see the phenomenal things that come out of this year! Here's to a memorable and wonderful Year #4 at Klein Cain HS!

Bringing a Storm of Service
Cain Student Council Brings Community Service Across State Lines
As different as this has been for our students and us as educators and students, we realize that we are far luckier than some. As you know, several weeks ago Louisiana and parts of Texas were damaged by Hurricane Laura and some of the students, families, and communities that were hoping for a little normal to return to their lives have been displaced, had to start over, and still don’t know what is to come.
As we know from COVID, school is the one constant in our kids’ (AND OUR) lives so, after talking to Mrs. Patin about a high school that is connected to her husband’s family, Student Council knew we wanted to help. For those of you who remember three years ago at Cain, we were able to embrace Lemm and their Lions on campus due to the outpouring of love from the community. Now we would like to embrace some Louisiana Lions from Vinton High School.
We would like to “BRING A STORM OF SERVICE” to Vinton High School through drives from our campus, our community, and our feeder pattern. We remember seeing the commitment and pride of all of our students that first year in putting together desks, sorting supplies, and putting together rooms for Lemm. We can still instill this through our kids now. Student Council knows we are only one entity in this school and Vinton High School is in need of many things. We know that we can make sure Cain can impact this school if we all work together.
So how can you help? You can send any donations to Cain with your students, or you can drop them off at the front office.
Bringing a Storm of Service Website
Our kids are so excited to bring some good to others and hope you will join us in “Bringing a Storm of Service” to Vinton High School! Our Seniors are excited to “bookend” their time at Cain helping the Lions (Lemm as Freshmen and Vinton as Seniors). We are also committed to, once again, prove that there is good that can come from a Hurricane too. 😊This is another testament to how amazing our kids are!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our amazing STUCO Sponsor, Antionette Hernandez.
Klein Cain Attendance Office
Absences, Early Dismissal & Tardy Info
Good attendance is important for many reasons. Your child receives the maximum benefit of education by being in school every day, and numerous studies show a strong link between academic performance and consistent attendance. As Klein Cain High School fulfills our Promise2Purpose, we strongly encourage every student to attend school every day.
EXCUSED ABSENCES
Although perfect attendance is the goal, it is not always possible. Klein Cain High School acts in accordance with Texas State Law for laws governing excused absences.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
Both the parent and the student are accountable for unexcused absences in the state of Texas. To help parents stay informed, the school will notify the parent if their child accrues absences. A compulsory notification will be sent to a parent if their child has the following:
- 1st Warning Letter: 3 absences per course in a 4-week period
- 2nd Warning Letter: 6 absences per course in a 4-week period
- Truancy Warning Letter: 3 unexcused absences in a 4-week period
- Denial of Credit: After the 9th absence
EARLY DISMISSAL
Students are required to obtain an early dismissal and sign out in the attendance office if they are leaving the campus before the school day is complete. If a student has a signed note from a parent requesting an early dismissal, the note must contain the following:
- Student's Name
- Date
- Time of the early dismissal
- Reason for the early dismissal
- Parent phone number
- Student's phone number
- Student's first (1st) period class with room number if known
Students are responsible for obtaining the early dismissal from the attendance office prior to leaving campus. Failure to obtain an early dismissal and proper sign-out will be treated as an absence without permission (truancy.)
TARDIES
Students have 6 minutes during their passing period. Students arriving after the tardy bell will be recognized as tardy. Students arriving to class 15 minutes after the tardy bell will be recognized as absent and will be directed to the attendance at that time or a later time.
10/10 RULE
To create the best educational environment, Klein Cain High School has adopted the 10/10 Rule. Students will not be allowed to exit their classrooms during the first and last 10 minutes of class except for emergencies.

Paws for Purpose Continues Making a Difference!
We continue to partner with Abandoned Animal Rescue in Tomball and are hoping that Montgomery County Animal Shelter will be able to work us in after they lift their Covid restrictions. In addition to our work days at AAR, we have also had a great time at our Reading to Dogs days and Cat Volunteer Days. Our big project this year is Tango! We are sponsoring a service dog for a veteran in partnership with The Rescue for PTSD. Some of our members have been able to work with Tango, a young rescue pup, and his chosen veteran as they work through the training. The hope is that by the end of the school year Tango will be trained and ready to start his life of service under the sponsorship of Paws for Purpose.
Want to know how you can help us? We have just finished collecting pet supplies for the Storm of Service, but we will be having another pet food and supply drive in the future. We also support our local shelters year round with donations. If you would like to donate pet food or supplies, we will take them and get them to our partners! We also collect newspapers year round for Abandoned Animal Rescue. Our Worlds Finest Chocolate Fundraiser is fast approaching - October 7-21. We would be happy to sell you some chocolate! We will also have some spirit nights throughout the year. Proceeds will go toward Tango's care and training.
The club has grown from about thirty five members two years ago to almost two hundred last year. For those who want to join this year, dues are open on School Cash for a limited time (t-shirt included with dues) and students can see Ms. Kopinitz in the Counseling Office after the deadline or either of our co-presidents/founders, James Lamb and Clayton Hester.
