Shoe Review
From running shoes to flip flops, shoes are not only comfy but they are also trendy. Here are some comfortable but stylish running shoes. A new pair of shoes that just came out are the Nike Air Max 270. These were released on March 2, 2018 and are selling between $120 and $150. A very popular Adidas shoe is the Ultraboost. This pair of shoes come in a variety of different colors such as gray and pink, and red and black. These shoes are very comfortable and actually have memory foam in the sole of the shoe. This makes it softer and easier to run. Ultra Boost are a more expensive pair of shoes and they are usually sold around $200. A pair of Jordans were released on March 10, Jordan Retro 9. This pair of shoes is great for basketball since they are high top. They are sold around $150. Finally, for the last pair of shoes, I am featuing the Nike Epic React Flyknit. These are great track and running shoe. They are sold for $150. Now that I have explained to you some great new shoes, go and try to rock them yourself!

Food Review by Brie, Noni, and Isabella
Hello, I am Isabella, and I am a huge food lover. Who isn’t? One of my favorite restaurants to eat at is Azan Wok. Azan Wok is located right here in Plum Borough. The best meal there, in my opinion, is the General Tso’s Chicken with white rice. The General Tso’s Chicken is pieces of chicken deep fried and tossed in sweet and tangy sauce. The white rice is a side that goes great with the meal. It is $12.50 for both the chicken and the side of rice. I do recommend you to go to Azan Wok and buy the General Tso’s Chicken with a side of white rice. If General Tso's isn't your taste, you could also try some of their sushi. They make it right there, fresh and delicious. They also have a variety of other Chinese dishes available including some great appetizers!
Appetizer:
Crab Rangoon
Hi, my name is Noni. I am doing a review on Crab Rangoons from the restaurant Azan Wok. Crab Rangoons are an appetizer that Azan wok has. They are made with cream cheese and crab. It may sound nasty, but it actually tastes really good. On their website there are 139 reviews on it. In my opinion, Crab Rangoons is my favorite appetizer on the menu. They are bowl shaped with a cream cheese middle with small amounts of crab.
If you want to make Crab Rangoons at home, I found a recipe for you.
INGREDIENTS:
1 five oz can of crab meat , drained (can be substituted with fresh or packaged crab)
4 oz cream cheese , softened
1 green onion , finely sliced
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
18 wonton wrappers
oil for frying
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat 1 inch of oil to 325 degrees over medium heat.
In a small bowl, gently combine crab meat, cream cheese, green onion, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce.
Lay out 3 wonton wrappers at a time.
Place 2 teaspoons of the filling in the center of each.
Dab the edges with water and fold the two opposite corners together to form a triangle.
Wet the tips of the triangle and fold inward.
Continue until all of your filling is used up.
TO FRY
Drop the wontons into the hot oil for 2-3 minutes or until brown and crispy.
Drain on paper towels.
TO BAKE
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
Assemble wontons as above and spray each with cooking spray.
Bake 12-14 minutes.

Do you want a great recipe to share with your family? Do you want to be able to sit down and have a great dinner with your family? Well this pot roast is a great choice if you do.
Ingredients:
1(2-pound) boneless chuck roast
¼ cup of lower-Sodium soy sauce
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup beef broth
1 package dried morels
1 tablespoon of cracked black pepper
3 tablespoons sun-dried tomato paste
2 medium onions
1 package of carrots
16 small red potatoes, halved
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 ½ tablespoons all purpose flour
3 tablespoons water
Rosemary sprigs (optional)
Step 1
Combine roast, soy sauce, and garlic in a large zip-top plastic bag; seal bag, and marinate in refrigerator at least 8 hours, turning bag occasionally.
Step 2
Bring broth to a boil in a small saucepan; add mushrooms. Remove from heat; cover and let stand 20 minutes. Drain mushrooms through a cheesecloth-lines colander over a bowl, reserving broth mixture.
Step 3
Remove roast from bag, reserving marinade. Sprinkle roast with pepper, gently pressing pepper into roast. Combine reserved marinade, mushroom broth mixture, and tomato paste; stir well, and set aside.
Step 4
Place mushrooms, onion, carrot and potato in a 6-quart electric slow cooker; toss gently.
Step 5
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add roast, browing well on all sides. Place roast over vegetables in slow cooker. Pour tomato paste mixture into pan, scraping to loosen browned bits. Pour tomato paste mixture over roast and vegetables. Cover with lid; cook on high-heat setting 1 hour. Reduce to low-heat setting, and cook 8 hours or until roast is tender. Place roast and vegetables on a serving platter; keep warm. Reserve liquid in slow cooker; increase to high-heat setting.
Step 6
Place flour in a small bowl. Gradually add water, stirring with a whisk until well blended. Add flour mixture to liquid in slow cooker. Cook, uncovered, 15 minutes or until slightly thick, stirring frequently. Serve roast with gravy and vegetables.

Book and Movie Review by Jesse
Pacific Rim
Oh my gosh I love this movie. Probably my favorite movie by far. This movie is rated PG -13, so you need to get permission first. It is about giant building sized robots that fight alien monsters that threaten the existence of mankind. The monsters come from a portal between dimensions that is in the Pacific Ocean. They come out of the portal, slowly at first, like twice a year, but by the time the movie starts, they are coming once or twice a week. They even come out two at a time! I won’t spoil any more of the movie for you, so it can be fresh when you watch it. Over all a great thriller, watch it when you have free time. Oh, and it’s getting a sequel this month, which I am SUPER excited for.
Voyagers: Project Alpha
I don’t like reading as much as some other people, but this book is one that I like. It is about a group of kids that are competing to go to space. Halfway through the book 4 crew members are chosen, and they go to find the ingredients for the source, a power source that will supply the planet with enough power to fuel itself for thousands of years. Their first (and only one in this book) destination is to a planet that is in a constant Jurassic period. They have to get a raptadon tooth.( a raptadon is a huge t-Rex creature.) Overall his book and the ones that follow are some of the best that I have ever read.

Did you go to the Holiday Park Talent Show on Friday March 9th? The talent show was held at O'Block Junior High School at 6:30. It was amazing! There were so many talents! For example, there were card tricks, dances, singing, baton twirling, and basketball tricks. Mr. Shafter, Mr. Satterfield, and Mr. Pilyih helped to emcee this terrific night. If you missed this year's, hopefully you can see next year's.

Some of the books that I know of are Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Getaway, Narwhal, A New Ranger in Time and many more. They don’t just sell books though. You can get chocolate scented calculators, cool bookmarks, and lots of different posters with your favorites on them. We hope to see you there. At the Scholastic Book Fair! Happening in Music
Do you ever wonder what is happening in music class with kindergarten-6th grade? In kindergarten, first, and second grade, they are working on Music in Our School’s month. Third grade is learning to play the recorders. Fourth grade is doing a STEM unit. Fifth grade is doing the Musical Theatre unit. And finally, 6th grade just finished African Drums and just started doing history of Rockin’ Roll from the 1950’s-present!
National Breakfast Day at Holiday Park
On March 6th we had breakfast day in our cafeteria! With this happening, they were so busy that they had kids waiting for their food at 9:00am when 4,5,6 graders are switching into there first class.
Awesome Art!
These following art projects were made by 6th grade students. These projects represent what you should have in your daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. These different foods were sculpted by the 6th graders. They completed these displays in only 40 minutes. That’s impressive! Thank you Mrs. Iacovino for all that you do involving art in our school.
STEM Happenings
The Mobile Maker has been at our school during this third nine weeks. During the stations you got a chance to experience virtual reality, make t-shirts, and use the 3D printer. Students also had a chance to build sculptures with Keva Planks. Some of the other great things on the Mobile Maker included wacky wigglers, gears, straws with connectors, 3D pens and boards, and Keva bots and mazes. The students had a great time experimenting and building with these great tools. We are sad to see the Mobile Maker go!
Holiday Park Elementary School's Dress Up Day!
Did you hear about the Dress-Up Day on March 16th? I did! It was amazing because everyone looked amazing! People looked like Leprechauns dressed in all green. Some students dressed in their best and looked very fancy and elegant. They looked like they were ready to go to a fancy restaurant or wedding! This was a student government sponsored day. It was a great success!

Ice Hockey
When you play ice hockey, it is played with 5 people - without counting the goalie. The Stanley Cup game is played every year. It is the highlight of the season. Every team hopes to make it to the Stanley Cup playoffs and ultimately, win that trophy! Last year the Penguins won it! That was not their first time. They have actually won the Stanley Cup a total of 5 times. The first time was in 1991 and the most recent was just last year. Ice hockey is a very rough sport. They are having some tough battles with the other teams. Let’s hope that they can make it to the Stanley Cup this year. The penguins have traded new people that are good and have made the team better. But sadly, our old goalie, Fleury was traded to LA. We miss him and wish him the best. Let’s go Pens!
Staff Spotlight by Allie and Gloria
Mrs. Venanzi
This month, for Staff Spotlight, we picked Mrs. Venanzi! The reason Mrs. Venanzi became a teacher is because she loves watching kids learn. She loves to watch the light bulb ignite above the student’s head. She has been teaching for quite a long time. Her favorite subjects to teach are Reading and Science. If she was not a teacher, she would want to be a marine biologist, or any kind of biologist. Her favorite books are Nightingale and Wonder. Her favorite sport to watch is lacrosse. If she could travel the world, the first places she would go are Australia and Fiji. Thank you Mrs. Venanzi for being a great teacher!
Mrs. Litz
Our second teacher for Staff Spotlight is Mrs. Litz. She has a baby named Ashlyn who is cute and sweet. She was born on October 27, 2017. Mrs. Litz said that her two other kids, Marissa and Gavin love their sister and also enjoy helping out their mom. They are all anxious to see what Ashlyn does next. It was very hard for Mrs. Litz to leave her to go back to teach but, Mrs. Litz’s staff members, almost like family members, helped make it easier. Mrs. Litz said that her favorite year of school was third grade. She also said that she is likes her staff teammates. Her grandmother was a teacher and she was inspired by her. Thank you Mrs. Litz for being an amazing teacher!Art Spotlight by Madilyn and Madelyn
March’s Student Artist
Art is a therapeutic and self-expressional practice. It is a calming form of meditation that builds careers and self confidence. It helps deal with stress. Art is debatably the strongest force besides love. It bonds stronger than glue and is the structure of anything and everything. Art is everything. This is why it is mandatory to recognize artists that put their best effort into their work.
Due to the recent delays, cancellations, and Easter break, we had a shortage of finished projects kept in the art room. We have one project that relates to Easter, so we are reserving it for our April issue. Even though the project could also be seen as not Easter related, this project will not be completed in time for this issue.
All artwork and projects credited to Mrs.Iacovino and her art supplies.
