A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I saw a pack of Necco “Conversation Hearts” in a student’s hand last week…It must be February!
This month we begin some great projects. You may have seen a link on Facebook for a survey regarding the start of Patrick Community Garden! We are so excited about beginning this component of our school learning activities, and will start by creating a butterfly garden that we hope to have recognized by www.Monarchwatch.org as a monarch waystation! I will include the link to the survey below. If you haven’t had a chance to fill it out, please take a moment to do so!
We will begin our Panther Run Club this month, with great thanks to Crater’s Cross Country State Champions, Nate Edwards, Josh Idiart, and Griffin Hoganson! Wednesdays and Thursdays every week, these athletes will encourage support Panthers who want to take up this healthy pastime! Participation is strictly voluntary, and those who do participate will eligible for “running charms” for their school charm collection, AND will be working towards earning Crater Cross Country Swag for greater milestones.
Our great thanks to Figaro’s Pizza and those that participated in their fundraiser for us, during December Wednesdays! We now have $153 to use towards our makerspace! Makerspaces provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering. We plan on using the money to help us obtain more tools and constructive elements for students to use in this area. A recent need that has shown itself is shelving. Although we hope to eventually make our own shelving as a part of student projects, we ask that if anyone has some shelving to donate now, we would greatly appreciate it. It is easier to work on projects, when your tools are organized!!
February 21, Rogue Valley Symphony will send a quartet (or quintet) to visit students. They do a fabulous job of introducing students to different instruments, composers, and musical styles. If you have a chance, it is a fun assembly to sit in on!
Thank you, Parents, for you love and support at our Panther Music Concert! Staff was so proud of students’ hard work and focus! Your presence meant the world to them and to us. Big hugs to teacher Wendy Cawthorne for sharing her passion for music.
We hope this month brings you and your Panthers reminders of the love and bonds of family.
Your Patrick Staff thanks you for choosing us to help educate your children!
3rd-5th Grade State Testing
State testing will begin for grades 3-5 after Spring Break. If you choose to have your student “opt out” of state testing, you may download the document(s) at the link(s) below, sign, and send back to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. The form suggests Feb 1, 2017. Since we are testing later in the spring, we ask that you have it to us no later than March 10, 2017, so we can submit to the state.
If you need a hard copy sent home for any reason, please call our office and request one to be sent home with your student.

A big thank you to Nichole Petty and Hilary Cooper for popping, bagging, and passing out popcorn to our Panther's for January Popcorn Friday. Popcorn Friday's are always the Friday after the month's PTO meeting; if you have a couple of hours free and would like to help with this event please contact a PTO board member.
Thanks to Mrs. MIracle and Mr. Bjorge for sponsoring January's movie night; it was a huge success. Thank your to all the Patrick families who attended.
We appreciate our volunteers and all that they do for our Panthers.
Rogue Valley Farm to School is sampling at your student’s cafeteria through the Tasting Tables program! Keep an eye out for the monthly recipe and health information flyer. Ask your student what fresh and local harvest items they have tried recently. In the month of January 1,497 samples of potato crust pizza, rosemary roasted potatoes, and potato leek soup were tasted!
If you're interested in getting involved and seeing the Tasting Tables in action, please contact: email@example.com
We are always looking for new members and new idea's to support Patrick teachers and students. Please bring your idea's and join us February 14th at 6:00 PM in room 1 for our monthly PTO meeting.
