Week 2
Week 2 Notes
This week, we got right into the swing of things. The introductory lessons and setup of classroom procedures have all been reviewed and we are well into our curriculum across the board. If you haven't made it a part of your routine at home, now is a great time to make sure that you are reviewing time management strategies, organization, and other executive functioning strategies with your child. At school, especially with our 5th graders, we review things like writing assignments into assignment notebooks, clearing out folders, and keeping lockers looking clean. Roughly bi-weekly, we schedule locker clean out times and make sure our students throw out old items and put the pertinent ones in folders. Mirroring these practices with backpacks and home workspaces is a great habit to get in early on.
Question of the Week
While we encourage students to use assignment notebooks, we do not mandate it with all students. Today, ask your child: "How do you keep track of your assignments and their due dates?" Hopefully, your child opens an assignment notebook, but if not, it's a great time to start the conversation about strategies that are effective for managing the middle school workload.
