Hello, Longwood Families!
With all of the unexpected weather in January, this was our first full, 5 day week in 2024. Our Lions did a fantastic job finishing the week strong! The warmer temperatures and sunshine this week helped to thaw the ice on the playground and we were able to enjoy recess on both the blacktop and playground equipment!

Please continue reading for other important updates, including the 5Essentials Survey, and upcoming state testing for grades 3-4-5!
Have a wonderful weekend, Lions! Thank you for being a part of our Pride!
As a member of the Longwood community, you have an important opportunity to share your feedback and thoughts on our school's effectiveness in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This 15 minute survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and growth in standardized test scores.
The survey is open now until March 29, 2024. Please complete the survey today! We need at least 20% parent/guardian participation!
To take the survey, please visit http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/ and select begin. We greatly appreciate your participation and helping to provide key insights for improvement at your child's school!
MVHS Student Volunteers
We are fortunate to welcome volunteers from the Metea Valley High School Basketball Team and the English Honors Society! Students who win Out of the Blue for Basketball or Extra Recess, have the opportunity to play with MVHS players in the Gym on Monday afternoons. The English Honors Society visits on Wednesday afternoons and partner with students on creative writing and reading opportunities in the LMC with Ms. Kouri. We look forward to their visits each week!

Grade 3-4-5 State Testing - Mission for Families!
Grade 3-4-5 Families,
During the Month of March your student will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) for ELA and Math. Students in grade 5 will also take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA).
In the coming weeks, we'll be preparing as a school community.
Here are some ways you can help!
- Ensure your child arrives at school on time each day. Testing will begin promptly after arrival.
- Encourage your child to eat breakfast at home or at school.
- Continue to practice a bedtime routine to get a good night's rest.
- Cheer your child on! They can and will be successful!
We have a secret mission for families to create a surprise for your child!
Our goal during testing is for every student to have a note of encouragement waiting for them on their desk before beginning their IAR test. Words from the people who mean the most to them - their family and friends! Please click the link to submit an encouraging note for your student. Messages will be printed on stationary paper and delivered to your student our second morning of testing. Submit your note HERE
We appreciate your partnership in making your student's testing experience a positive and successful one!
One Book, One School
Frindle is the book every student and staff member have the opportunity to enjoy over the next few weeks. Every family received a copy of our book! We welcome you to join the fun and read along with us! Check out our reading schedule below. Save the date for Literacy Night on March 13th! We'll enjoy a special evening of activities centered around literacy and our shared reading journey of Frindle!
