Staff Member of the Month - November
Gail Loftis
A little bit about Gail:
* I moved to Texas from Florida in 1989 with my husband and sons.
* I'm mother to Kyle, 33 and Evan, 29. Both of my sons attended West.
* After many years of teaching pre-school, I gained my alternative certification in Special Ed and began teaching at West.
* As a former West and RHS band parent, I'm proud to say that my grandson, Hayden, is following in his father's and uncle's footsteps by playing the euphonium at Spring Creek.
*In my free time I like reading and loom knitting.
*Being a member of the West family has been an important part of my life for the past 11 years.
A note from Kimberly
Don't forget to vote for our holiday party if you have not done so already. We are making some decisions on where to host and what to do. Your input is valuable.
I can't believe that it is already November! 15 days until Thanksgiving break and 7 weekends until Christmas.

Who's Working at West? Get to know - Dayle Thornal
1) Tell us a little bit about your educational experience. Undergrad? Grad?
I attended different colleges: Stephen F. Austin, UT Austin, then I finished my bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas. I was carrying Bella when I started at UTD, and she was a toddler when I worked on the school paper. That’s why she’s so brilliant - she began life on a university campus. I went back to UTD in 2002 for my teaching certification as a graduate student.
2) Do you have any children? One daughter, Isabella, but everyone calls her Bella. She’s a junior at RHS in the drama magnet. She’ll be 17 in November, but she still likes to dress up for Halloween. I have a ten-year-old nephew, Carter as well. He says (and texts) “whelp,” to start most sentences like any good southeast Texan. I also have the sweetest, smartest three-legged dog - Antoine - in all the land.
3) What is the furthest location to which you have been? Budapest, Hungary. Wendy Cooper and I traveled during the summer of 2008 to five countries, and Budapest was our starting and ending point. We were able to find a small apartment to rent while we were there next to the opera house . . . it was the best place we had the whole trip. Although we did leave there one evening to burn a map in the streets of Budapest . . . I’ll never say why . . .
4) Have you ever read a wildly popular book that you just didn’t get? I hope I don’t offend anyone, but Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code) is a terrible writer. I enjoyed the movie more than the book, and that hardly ever happens. Holy Blood, Holy Grail, the book Brown got inspiration from, was a much better read.
5) Serif or Sans Serif? If I had to choose for class, I would say sans for clarity’s sake, but there’s an immediate warmth added with serif. I think it’s like asking people their preference of a physical book or an e-reader. While both are good, if I had to go with one, I’d say Serif, printed on rough cut paper.
