Principal's Note
Welcome to the 2nd semester of the 2018/2019 school year. We just recently celebrated our 100th day of school. We now have less than 80 days left in this school year. Please make sure you take a few minutes to review all the information in this newsletter. You will find information about our All School Music program, Preschool and Kindergarten Registration, E-Learning, State Assessments, upcoming events, and more.
Thank you for all you do to support your child's education. Please reach out to your child's teacher or stop by the office if you have any questions. #tribe

E-Learning Day Information
Shelby Eastern School Board recently adopted an eLearning Day Policy. That might be a term you’ve heard about in the media. eLearning Days allows our students to continue learning without interruption should severe weather force the cancellation of school. The eLearning Day also prevents us from extending our school year past the scheduled final day (5/24). SES school calendar has 3 preset “snow days” built in. Once those days have been used due to inclement weather an eLearning Day would be implemented.
What does an eLearning Day look like? When school is cancelled and an eLearning Day is implemented, teachers will post lessons and assignments the day following the closure. Teachers will provided specific details for submitting assignments and due dates to students and their families.
What if a child doesn’t have access to the internet at home? WES will offer extended hours for three days after the cancellation so students can complete their lessons and assignments. WES office will communicate with families which days the school will offer extended hours. Parents will be responsible for transportation.
What if a student needs assistance with an assignment? All teachers will have “office hours” where they are available via phone and email to assist students. Students that receive additional support to complete lessons and assignments will have access to their special education teacher during their office hours. All teachers will communicate with families their office hours.

Music Notes
Greetings Everyone
It’s great to be back at WES! The music classes have started full force preparing for our program (that I’ve been calling “Not the Christmas Program”). I’m really calling this one “Music Through the Year”.
Working on the program will consume most of the time during this nine weeks. As they learn their songs, the students are also learning many musical concepts and musical terms. Performing in the program is much like taking a final. Rehearsals and participation in the program will be graded. If a student is ill, they will be given an excused absence.
Our program will include a wide variety of songs, recorder playing and choreography. The program, for students in grades K - 5, will be held on Wednesday, February 20, at 7:00 pm in the High School gym. Students should try to arrive between 6:45 and 6:55. They need to hand their coats off to whoever brings them to the program, make sure they have taken care of all personal needs, and wait until they see their teacher before taking their seats in the bleachers.
Congratulations to Mindy Thurston & Jennifer Evans for their winning bids for front row seats to the program. Don’t forget to be there to claim your seats!!!
I’ll send reminders and any more information you might need closer to the program. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
