Public Works Administration
Hard Hat Area
Establishment & Purpose
The Public Works Adminstration (PWA) was founded June 16, 1933 as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's new deal plan of Spring 1933. The generic goal of the PWA was to provide employment through large construction projects on bridges and dams and help bring back America's industry as a whole.
Construction Projects
Many people worked to build houses, commercial buildings, and bridges over the U.S. which gave the industry the extra boost it needed to get on track.
Dams
Many dams were built as large scale projects to help many rural areas get electricity.
Employment
The main goal of the PWA was to bring employment to families in the fields of construction.
