From the Principal's Desk

Hello Waterford Community -

It seems like snow days are finally behind us and we will be able to re-establish our school routine. It will be nice for our students and families to begin to have some consistency as we move through the Spring!

2021-2022 School Year

We have started planning for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Registration information for upcoming Kindergarten Students or students that are returning to Waterford in an upper grade is available on the Waterford Website. If you have a neighbor or friend with a child that is eligible for Kindergarten - please encourage them to contact Mrs. Murter in the main office.

While I have completely given up on making bold predictions for what will come in the future - LCPS is currenting operating under the assumption that we will be offering 5 days of in-person learning to the majority of the students in 2021-2022.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

5th Grade Spelling Bee

On Monday, February 22, Waterford's first ever Virtual Spelling Bee was held. Our school bee was the first round in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Laura Thompson - who outlasted her classmates through 9 rounds of spelling and won the Bee by correcting spelling the word "intoxicating." Laura will represent Waterford in the Loudoun County Regional Spelling Bee - Good Luck!

School Breakfast Week

Next week - March 8-12 - is school breakfast week. The theme for this year is "Score Big!" Breakfast is free for all students this year. Hybrid students are welcome to grab a breakfast when they arrive at school and distance learners can pick up breakfast between the hours of 10:30 - 1:00 (along with a lunch, snack and supper!). Check out the video below which was created to help celebrate School Breakfast Week.

BrightBytes Survey

Thank you to those parents who have already completed the BrightBytes survey for this school year. Data collected from these surveys will help us plan instruction, professional development, and technology integration for the next several years. If you have not yet complete the survey - please do so by using this link:

Free Take Home Dinner/Snack from LCPS School Nutrition

LCPS School Nutrition Services is now offering a free dinner/snack option for all students. The full menu and description of the program can be found on the LCPS School Nutrition Website

Parents are able to pick up the dinner/snack from the kitchen during lunch service between the hours of 10:30 - 1:00.

Feel free to contact the main office if you have any questions.

Student Attendance

Student attendance is taken daily during Morning Meeting (8:00 AM). If students are not able to participate in Morning Meeting, but do participate in synchronous learning later in the day, they will be marked "tardy."

This year we will be using ParentVUE as our primary tool for families to communicate student absences, tardies, and early dismissals for our school. You will find the Report Attendance function in both the mobile app and web version for all your LCPS students. Please review this guide for instructions on how to use this tool to report daily or future attendance. Note that this function only reports attendance to the front office - teachers will not see any notes submitted through this process. Additional information on the process, including a short video demonstration can be found on the ParentVUE Attendance Options page.

For any requests to update previous days’ attendance, please continue to follow our normal process of notifying Mrs. Murter in the main office by email at Karen.Murter@lcps.org
