Project 2
Clothing Management 2 -- Anna Bilek
For this project I completed a dress that tightens at the waist and flows out similar to a circle skirt. Also, the dress has a collar and waistband made of a complementary fabric. To make this dress I used a pattern. I believe the skills this project emphasized was the skill to closely follow a pattern, to stitch round areas, and to stitch straight lines where they are visible.
To make this dress I used a thin lightweight cotton fabric. I chose a pattern with colors that allow me to wear it during all times of the year. The fabric is soft but not slick or silky. I had to sew on a zipper and also sewed on the collar and not allow stitching to show. A part that took a long time to complete was the neckline and the slit down the middle (and having to make it all finished edges). I had to have previous knowledge to know how to measure from the bottom of the dress and hem it, to know how to hand stitch the neck slit, and to put in the zipper.
I chose this specific project because this dress is 100% my style and I figured it'd be perfect for an everyday school outfit. This project challenged me enough to learn new things and to think things through more thoroughly but also had basic elements that were review. For next time I think I could improve the neckline and making it cleaner and simpler to make based on what I learned this time. YES I am absolutely satisfied with the end result because all of my hard work paid off and the dress is exactly my style and fits perfectly.
