Back to School Bash – Update and Thank you!
The BSE PTO wanted to thank everyone who attended this year’s event as well as all of the bidders in our Silent Auction. The net income from the event raised $10,000 for the BSE PTO. Teacher of the Month-- Attention Hamilton County kids!
Fishers DPW Invites Residents Behind-the-Scenes
Fishers, IN – It’s that time of year again when Fishers Department of Public Works (DPW) raises the overhead doors, leaves the keys in the trucks and invites residents of all ages to explore their department. On Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m., families will have the opportunity to learn more about the many services this department provides to Fishers residents. The DPW Open House is free to attend, and scout groups working on their badges are welcome.
“Our team loves the opportunity to connect with residents during the open house,” stated DPW Director, Eric Pethtel. “It’s not uncommon to see DPW staff painting alongside children, explaining the machinery and enjoying the open house just as much as our guests do.”
Light refreshments will be served during the event, and children can paint-a-plow or street sign that they might see around the city in the future. Fishers DPW includes four divisions; street maintenance, park maintenance, facility maintenance and water quality, and staff from each division will be able to explain the role they play in keeping our community vibrant.
The Fishers DPW garage is located at 10200 Eller Road and parking is available onsite. Attendees are welcome to stop by any time, and parents are encouraged to bring a camera! Connect with the department on Twitter @FishersDPW for reminders leading up to the open house.
Youth Mentoring
The Hamilton Southeastern School System is in a continued partnership with Youth Mentoring Initiative. It is YMI’s vision to provide mentoring support for students by building and sustaining a mentoring community here in Fishers.
As a member of this community, this is where you can help. You have an opportunity to impact the life of a young person by simply being present and sharing your life experience with them. When you share your life you change their life.
YMI is currently looking for mentors for Riverside Intermediate, Sand Creek Intermediate, Fall Creek Junior High, Fishers Junior, Fishers High School and HSE School. You have an opportunity to be part of something special in Fishers. The Mayor, Scott Fadness has issued the "Mayors Challenge", which is to raise up an additional 50 new mentors this Fall.
Become a YMI mentor! For more information check out these pages on the YMI website.

Boo Bash
Fishers Nickel Plate District Transforms into Halloween Village for Boo Bash
City offers safe trick-or-treating alongside opportunities to connect with local businesses
Fishers, IN – Mark the calendar, plan a costume and get ready for the return of Boo Bash in the Nickel Plate District. Once again, the City of Fishers is transforming the Nickel Plate District into a Halloween village to offer safe trick-or-treating, live music, games and activities, and even a costume contest for children under 12 and families. Boo Bash returns on Friday, October 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and is free for anyone to attend.
Roughly 50 local businesses and organizations will be represented at trick-or-treat booths during the event, which means while children enjoy playing a game or getting a piece of candy, parents can enjoy learning more about services available in the community. Complimentary Pat’s Philly Pretzels and hot chocolate will be available at the concession stand on a first come, first served basis throughout the event. Boo Bash also features a costume contest for infants through 12 year old children. This year, the costume contest also includes a family category, so start planning now!
Boo Bash is a free event that welcomes Fishers residents and those in surrounding communities. Those attending the event are encouraged to visit the website and plan ahead; 116th Street will be closed at the railroad crossing for construction during the event. The detour map will assist families in planning their route and parking around the Nickel Plate District. Those attending are also encouraged to share their photos using the hashtag #BooBash during the event.
About Boo Bash:
Fishers Parks & Recreation strives to connect businesses with residents during diverse, community-wide events. 60 vendor booths are available for local businesses and organizations. Anyone interested in hosting a booth are encouraged to contact Lorna Steele at steelel@fishers.in.us, today.
