Jefferson Jotter
October 2020
Letter from Principal
Dear Jefferson Parents,
Last week we started phase 1 of our Back to School Plan by welcoming our instructional special education students to school. Our students did a great job making the adjustment from remote learning to in-person learning including wearing a mask while at school!
The week of October 13th we will start phase 2. Our 3 year old community students will switch their days of attendance from MWF to either MTF or MThF to allow for three days of in-person learning. If your child is in Mrs. Demarinis' or Mrs. Holtz's class your child will now attend Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. If your child is in Ms. Rooney's or Mrs. Carmichael's class your child will now attend Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Students with IEPs for the classroom will attend in-person Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with Wednesday being a remote learning day.
On October 19th we will welcome the remaining Jefferson students by having our 4 year olds attend (phase 3). Students will attend in-person on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with Wednesday being a remote learning day. If your child is registered for 4 days a week they won't participate in remote learning on Wednesdays.
We are excited to have the children back at school! In order to keep all students, staff, and families safe you will be expected to take your child's temperature and check for COVID symptoms each day before sending him/her to school. On Tuesday, October 13, Monday, October 19, November 2, and November 16 you are to submit the Health Assessment Parent Confirmation Form via the Parent Portal.
If you opted for full remote your child will start remote learning with the new group either Tuesday, October 13th (3 year olds) or Monday, October 19th (4 year olds).
In November you'll have a chance to schedule a Parent - Teacher Conference to learn more about how your child is doing with in-person and/or remote learning. Your child's teacher will communicate with you how to schedule your conference.
Whether your child will be attending in-person or remote we know schooling in the midst of a global pandemic is different and can create stress for students and families. Please continue to reach out to your child's teacher, our social worker, our school nurse, or me if you need support. By pulling together we will become stronger from this unprecedented experience!
Please continue to take care of yourself, your family, and your neighbors.
Respectfully,
Lisa Halverson
Principal

District 64's Elementary Learning Foundation (ELF) isn't going to let the COVID pandemic stop them from sponsoring the 4th Annual Halloween Hustle for District 64 students, staff, and families! This year instead of having a single event, families are invited to complete a 3K around the Park Ridge-Niles community between October 24 - November 8th. You decide on your own route, whether you want to run, walk, bike, scoot, skate, or skip, and your costume. Bring family and friends along and make it a socially distanced event. Take pictures along the way and have FUN!
The school with the highest percentage of participants will win the coveted ELF trophy! While Jefferson is small we are mighty, so help us represent Jefferson by participating in the Halloween Hustle! Prizes will also be awarded to the most creative route and best costume so submit your pictures before November 8th.
Registration for the event can be completed by going to the ELF website. All registrants will receive a Halloween Hustle t-shirt and Tiny Tikes (children under 5) will receive a medal.
Whether your child attends in-person or remotely we must have your child's immunization records on file at Jefferson School. Our school nurse, Paula Coleman, has already contacted you if your child's immunization records haven't been submitted. If your child's immunization records aren't provided, he/she will not be able to attend and/or participate in remote learning beginning Thursday, October 15th.
Medication at School
If your child requires medication at school please contact the school nurse, Paula Coleman, so she can provide you with the necessary form for your doctor to complete. A written prescription from the doctor is required.
The Fall Parent Teacher Conferences will be held virtually on Thursday, November 5 and 19. Your child's teacher will be communicating with you soon about scheduling a conference.
If you haven't been receiving emails from Jefferson or District 64 please contact Kathy Luppo so she can make certain the information in Power School is current/accurate. This includes correct addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and emergency contacts.
On the 15th of each month you will receive an invoice via email from the District's electronic invoicing system, My School Bucks. Payment of fees is due by the 1st of each month and can be done electronically. A $25.00 late fee will be assessed if payment isn't received by the 3rd business day of the month. If payment isn't received by the 20th day of the month an additional $25.00 will be assessed, totaling $50.00 late fee. If a family is late 2 times with their payments, their child(ren) may be dismissed from the program indefinitely.
For families who don’t want to rely upon an invoice email via My School Bucks, you can log into your PowerSchool Parent portal, click on your child, click the My School Bucks link on the left hand side, log into your My School Bucks account, and click invoices under school store.
If you decide at any time to withdraw from Jefferson School you will need to notify the school secretary, Kathy, at kluppo@d64.org or 847-318-5360 prior to the 15th of the month to take effect for the upcoming month. For example, if you no longer want your child enrolled in the program for December you need to inform Kathy prior to November 15th.
