The Double Creek Courier
Week of October 2
Principal's Letter
Double Creek Families,
We are almost ready to sell t-shirts for students, staff, and parents! The design has been approved and now we are working with Centex to get them printed. The orders will use an online store for your convenience. Stay tuned for the link!
Thank you for helping to get your kids to school on time. Our first bell rings at 7:25 and the tardy bell rings at 7:30 AM. If you arrive after the bell, we ask you to come sign your children in at the front office.
Don't forget that there are three student holidays coming up from October 9-11. Parent conferences are on Wednesday, October 11th during the day. Your teachers will be reaching out to you to schedule conferences in person, by phone, or online.
October's virtue trait is integrity. We will be working with students on what it means to be truthful, compassionate, and keeping your word. Please help reinforce this skill at home and in the community.
Have a great weekend! Go Cougs!
Dr. Wilson

Attendance Matters!
As we all know, cold and flu season are upon us. We wish for all our students to stay healthy always. However, we understand there could come a time when they are not feeling too well and need to stay home. Please read the following information regarding our attendance policy. More information is also available in the Jarrell Independent School District Parent and Student Handbook under Absences/Attendance.
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education to benefit from teacher led and school activities, to build each day's learning on the previous day's, and to grow as an individual.
When a student is absent, the student must bring a note to the attendance office within three days of the absence. After three days, parent notes may not be accepted and the absences will be considered unexcused. A maximum of three (3) parent notes per semester will be accepted as excused.

Recap of Start with Hello Week
Start With Hello Week (SEPT 18-22) is a national call-to-action awareness campaign dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth. Our school counselors would like to send a big "thank you" to every DCES student who took the Start With Hello pledge to reach out to peers who may be alone, left out or isolated AND to use their voices when something seems wrong. Students' individual pledges are displayed in the DCES cafeteria in the form of a tree to symbolize connection, growth and friendship. Students also got to know classmates better by participating in lunchtime Table Talk. They learned some “Hello” words in different languages and were challenged to make new connections with staff and students.
