There are three main categories of drugs, depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens. All three have a different effect on the human body, and all have dangerous effects on the individual who chooses to tamper with them.
Hallucinogen
Marijuana is categorized as a hallucinogen, LSD is also classified in that category. This means that users may experience a distorted sense of reality while under the influence. Some psychological effects of marijuana are depressed mood, loss of short term memory, and a loss of appetite. A physical changes you will notice include a loss of short term memory. According to National Institute on Drug Abuse around seven percent of high school seniors smoke marijuana every day. Marijuana abuse can also lead to loss of short term memory, depression, anxiety, and an increase in body weight.
Depressants
Alcohol, barbiturates, and opiates are all examples of depressants. Side effects of alcohol consumption include dizziness, headache, talkativeness, slurred speech, and a loss of motor coordination. It is also said that approximately nine out of ten Americans have once tried alcohol. Although alcohol is not illegal to consume, you will loose your licence and face time in jail if you are caught driving while under the influence.
Stimulants
Nicotine and cocaine are both stimulants. Eight percent of adults ages 18 to 25 have once tried cocaine. While under the influence of this drug you will notice that you will feel an increase in energy and excited speech. But this is only temporary, for once the high wears off you notice an increase in anxiety, depression. Cocaine is also responsible for the most U.S. emergency room visits. Plus, if found in your possession you face a $5000 fine or one year in jail.
