Six Flags Read to Succeed Program

Hedgcoxe is participating in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program. Students can earn a free ticket to Six Flags by completing 6 hours, or 360 minutes, of recreational reading. Be sure to use the attached reading log to document time spent reading. A parent letter is also attached that gives more information about the program. Reading logs are due to teachers by February 26th.

Talent Show

We are very excited about the 2015-2016 Hedgcoxe Talent Show. Performances this year will take place on two separate days. Grades K – 2 will perform on February 16th at 6:00 p.m. and grades 3 – 5 will perform on February 17th at 6:00 p.m. EACH participant must sign the registration and rules attached, and return to the Talent Show Collection Box in the front office by Monday, January 25th at 3:30 p.m.


ALL participants must follow these rules in order to participate in this year’s show.

Box Top Collecting

Hedgcoxe is still collecting Box Tops and Labels for Education. Box Tops and Labels for Education are a great way to support our school.

Clothes Donation Bin

A clothing bin has been delivered to the Hedgcoxe parking lot. The school will receive $0.15 per pound of clothing and shoes we collect each month! Money will be given directly to the school!

Language Arts/Writing

Students will be writing a persuasive essay in class.

Students will be studying words with Diphthongs /oi/ and /ou/ and the test is scheduled for Friday, February 12.

The mathematical focus is representing and generating fractions to solve problems. Students will represent fractions as a sum of unit fractions, decompose fractions into a sum of fractions, determine fraction equivalence, represent fractions and decimals on a number line, and estimate and solve addition and subtraction problems involving fractions with equal denominators.

Students begin to think about the water cycle and weather patterns.



Students collect and record weather data in order to understand there are recognizable patterns among Earth’s cycles and systems that can be observed, described, predicted and explained with models.
