A Note From Mrs. Mathe
Last night, Dr. Null encouraged all of us to make this first day of school special, even though it is a virtual day. Normally, if you take first day pictures, do that. If you pack a special lunch for your child, do that. Or make a new first day of school tradition with your child(ren). We only get 13 of these first days with our own kids, so there is no reason why THIS first day can't be special too.
Upcoming Dates
August 7: You should have received your child's teacher assignment today. If you did not receive an email, please contact Powell at 936-709-1700

School Supply Information
If your family ordered the pre-packaged school supplies at the end of the year last year, we will be hosting a "drive through" event on Tuesday, August 11th from 8:30 am- 12:30 pm to pick up your supplies. We have had the question asked if students will need the supplies during the virtual learning experience. The short answer to that is yes. Remote/Online instruction will mirror in person instructions, so students may still be expected to work in journals, write in notebooks, etc.
We ask that families that plan to come to school face to face beginning September 8th leave the contents of your box in tact and only remove the supplies the students are using for remote instruction for the first few weeks. We ask that all other supplies be returned to school on September 8th to be used for the remainder of the school year.
EVENT DETAILS
All traffic will enter the front drive of the school (yellow arrows).

A Note from Nurse Wiles
This year, the Powell clinic will look a bit different than in years past. Because of current circumstances, we can no longer accept any medications that may mask the symptoms of Covid-19 without a current doctors order. This includes any over the counter cough and cold medications (including cough drops), Tylenol (acetaminophen), or Advil (ibuprofen), that are used to treat headaches, body aches, sore throats, or fevers. Both Tylenol and Advil can still be administered without a doctors order to treat other conditions such as painful braces, pain from a broken arm, etc. We also can not administer any nebulizer medications at this time, so please send an inhaler to substitute while at school.
For students who will have allergy or asthma medications at school, please obtain an allergy and asthma action plan from your child's doctor prior to dropping off the medication.
As a reminder, all prescription and over the counter medication must be in the original container and not be expired. Medications must be signed into the clinic by a parent or guardian. Medications should never be sent in a child's back pack to the school.
If you have medication that needs to be dropped off at school, we will begin accepting student medication during the ramp up period of August 12- September 4th, during normal school hours. When you arrive at school, please call the front office 936-709-1700 and let the receptionist know that you are here to drop off medication. One of our clinic staff will come to the car to meet you and complete the paperwork. If you are unable to deliver your child's medication during the ramp up period, the clinic will continue to receive medication throughout the year using this same process.
For the most up-to-date information regarding CISD health guidelines and FAQ, please visit the Roadmap to Reopening webpage: Health Guidance and Considerations section.
We look forward to a great year and can't wait to see everyone again.
