Approaching College Application Deadlines!
Please be aware of your college application deadlines! You must give yourself, your counselor, and those writing letters of recommendation enough time to complete their portion of your application. Remember, the Counseling Office is closed from December 24th - January 3rd. If you have any questions, please see your counselor today!
Congratulations to those students who have received acceptance letters! As you receive these letters, please let us know so we can share the exciting news on the announcements (only if you allow us to and we hope you do)!
SCHOLARSHIPS ... SCHOLARSHIPS ... SCHOLARSHIPS!
2016 HRCCU College Scholarship: applicants must be a HRCCU member-in-good-standing and plan to attend an accredited college/university in the fall of 2016. Application is available online. Deadline: April 8, 2016
2016 HRCCU Making Life Better Community Service Award: applicant must plan to attend an accredited college/university in the fall of 2016 and be a HRCCU member-in-good-standing. Applicant must have community service experience and a letter that validates community service experience. Application is available online. Deadline: April 8, 2016
2016 NYCUS State-wide College Scholarship: applicant must be a senior bound for an accredited two or four-year institution for the first time in the fall of 2016. Application can be found online. Deadline: January 15, 2016
The Upper Hudson River Valley Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association: applicant must have basic knowledge of the QDMA, be accepted at an accredited institution, and plan to pursue a degree in Environmental or Agricultural Sciences. More information can be found on the Upper Hudson River Valley QDMA Facebook Page. Deadline: February 1, 2016
Burger King Scholars Program: scholarship criteria based on grade point average, work experience, extracurricular activities and/or community service. Please find the application online. Deadline: December 15, 2015GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program: eligible applicant must demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship; have a 3.0 or higher grade point average; demonstrate financial need; plan to enroll full-time in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship Program: eligible applicant must be interested in pursuing an animation degree at an accredited school or college. For more information, please visit the scholarship page. Deadline: June 1, 2016
Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York, Inc. ("Ned" Carter/Past Presidents Scholarship): applicant must be continuing his/her education at a two or four-year accredited college; must have or be entering a career of service to the community; and have financial need. Application is available in the Counseling Office and online. Deadline: March 5, 2016
Empire State Potato Growers Inc. Annual Scholarship Information & Application: applicant must be a resident of New York State and plan to enter college to pursue studies that benefit the agricultural industry. Application is available in the Counseling Office. Deadline: January 15, 2016
The New York Water Environment Association: a total of 6 scholarships will be offered to those who are planning a course of study with an environmental emphasis, public service emphasis, or an emphasis in an environmentally related program. Applications are available online. Deadline: February 17, 2016
NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award: this award is open to any graduating senior who will be entering an accredited two or four-year college, university, or technical institute. All applicants must be running his/her own small business in order to be eligible for the award. Application is available online. Deadline: December 18, 2015
Phi Delta Kappa Future Educator Scholarship: applicant must be planning to pursue a degree in the field of education. Application is available in the Counseling Office. Deadline: March 1, 2016
Gerard J. Buckenmeyer FASNY Volunteer Scholarship: the applicant must be actively participating as a junior firefighter, a volunteer fire fighter, or volunteer in an EMT program. Application is available online. Deadline: March 15, 2016
Laziali Nel Mondo of the Capital District, Inc. Scholarship: eligible applicants must be high school seniors of Italian decent (at least one Italian ancestor), be enrolled in a course focused on the Italian language, history, or culture. Application is available in the Counseling Office. Deadline: March 31, 2016.
College Specific Scholarships:
Marist College: Technology Scholarships are available for students who select a major in Computer Science or Information Technology and Systems. More information is available in the Counseling Office and online.
St. John Fisher College Foreign Language Scholarship: applicant is recognized for his/her achievement in the field of foreign language. Applicant must be proficient in French or Spanish and have a minimum SAT score of 1000 or a ACT composite score of 22. Eligible applicants must apply to St. John Fisher College and receive a nomination from a teacher or counselor by January 22, 2016. For more information, see the online nomination packet.
FINANCIAL AID ... FINANCIAL AID ... FINANCIAL AID!
Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid as soon as possible after January 1st. There are a few ways to apply:
- Apply online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov (both the student and parent will need a FAFSA ID)
- Download and complete a PDF version of the FAFSA at: www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov (must be mailed in for processing)
- Request a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at: 1 800 4 FED AID.
