Cheer Wins First Competition!
December 2nd the Lago Vista Middle School Cheer team traveled to San Antonio to compete in the UCA Southwest Regional Meet. This was their second year to compete and their first ever appearance at a UCA Regional Meet.
Their competition performance consists of a band chant dance, a situational cheer where they are given a cue and have to determine to do an offense or defense cheer, a crowd leading cheer, and a fight song dance. They must complete all of these portions in a 3 minute time period.
The LVMS Cheer team came out on top with a 1st place finish! They will perform again at the Lago Vista Game Day Invitational on Saturday, December 30th. We would love for you to come out and support the LVMS Cheer Team!
Boys Basketball Tangles With the Badgers
The 7th grade A squad played a tough, smart, and disciplined Badger team Thursday night in Lampasas. The Vikings struggled to score early on but were able to stay in it with some 3-pointers from Trevor Lane and Raylan Horton. The aggressive defense by Lago gave us a chance down the stretch and it was a tie game in the last couple minutes. Zaire Arar scored 5 points in the fourth quarter to force OT and the Vikings came away with a 37-36 W in OT!
Our LVMS 7th grade B team basketball squad traveled to Lampasas Middle School last Thursday night in Lampasas. The Vikings struggled to get an offense started in the first half, scoring only 5 points in the first half. Lampasas, on the other hand, came out hot in the first half, putting up 17. The Vikings rallied back in the second half, holding the Badgers to only 8 points, but could not make up the difference from the first half. The final score left the Vikings with their first loss of the season at 11-25. Our defensive player of the week is Delsin Reyes, with 1 steal and 3 rebounds, and our offensive leader of the week is Ryker Pennington, with 5 points and an assist. This loss brings the season record to 2-1.
Our LVMS 8th grade B team basketball squad traveled to Lampasas Middle School last Thursday night in Lampasas. The Badgers were another formidable team and gained an early lead in the first quarter, scoring 29 points, but the Vikings held them to only 14 points in the second half. The Vikings only put up 2 points in the first half, but scored 8 points in the second half. Despite the effort, the Vikings ended up falling to the Badgers 10-42. Our defensive player of this week’s game is Carter Manion, with 1 steal and 3 rebounds. Our offensive player of the game is Tyler Evans, with 4 points on the night. This loss brings the season record to 0-3.
Lady Vikings Host Badgers
7th B vs Lampasas
The Lady Vikings hosted Lampasas this week. The Lady Vikings fought hard last night and kept the score close but eventually fell to Lampasas 15-20. Peyton Christensen and Stella Granger led their team in scoring with 4 points each. Liana Steven’s, Peyton Christensen, and Lauren Carpenter are great leaders and continue to bring the ball down the court to create scoring opportunities. Contributing to our score were Liana Stevens, Aaliyah McArthur, Stella Maxwell, and Shelby Rosprim. The Lady Vikings were aggressive in taking the ball to the basket and drew fouls from the Lady Badgers. Unfortunately we weren’t able to capitalize on those free throws. That will be an emphasis next week in order to improve our free throw percentages. The team is improving each week and learning to work together. Especially Aaliyah McArthur, who learned a new position this week and was a presence defensively in the paint. She had quite a few rebounds along with Madison Hawes and Sienna McGuire. Also leading our team defensively were Lauren Carpenter, Ariana Yorek, and Molly Cortez who each logged multiple steals. Next week we travel to Taylor to take on the Ducks at 5:15.
7th A vs Lampasas
As we continue to work on our basketball skills and knowledge of the game we came up short Thursday night to a very good Lampasas team. We will keep working on our fundamentals and IQ for the game to grow stronger each week. These ladies played hard for 4 quarters. We just had trouble stopping some of the Lady Badgers that are quick on their feet and can shoot very well.
8th B vs Lampasas
The Lady Vikings hosted Lampasas this week. The Lady Vikings came out aggressive and kept the score close in the first half but would eventually lose the game 9-24. The Lady Badgers had size on us which made it difficult to rebound. The number of shots they were able to get off during each drive allowed them to run away with the score during the second half. We know we have some things to work on going into practice next week and the girls are motivated to get the job done. Kennedy Brown and Elle Head continue to lead their team offensively to create scoring opportunities. Kennedy Brown, Leah Escalona and Hannah Koenning each made it to the basket adding points for their team. Next week we travel to Taylor to take on the Ducks at 5:15.
8TH A VS LAMPASAS
The Lady Vikings hosted a talented and tall Lampasas team in what was their last home game until February. The girls played very hard but struggled against the length and relentless pressure of Lampasas’ defense. The girls were able to create some good looks on offense but were kept to “one and done” due to Lampasas’ ability to crash the boards and secure rebounds. Defensively the girls competed hard, rarely allowing the first or second options for the Badgers, forcing Lampasas to make multiple passes and attempts before they could break through the vikings defense. The Lady Vikings were able to force multiple turnovers despite their disadvantage in height. All in all it was a much improved effort from the first match up for the Lady Vikings that wasn’t necessarily reflected in the score. The girls kept their defensive shape throughout, played with purpose on offense and gave up very few uncontested or easy “first look” buckets. The Lady Vikings are back on the road to Taylor on Wednesday evening as they wrap up the first half of the basketball season.

This message is to inform you that annual student registration is open in Ascender ParentPortal.
As a reminder, annual registration must be completed EACH YEAR because these forms provide us with important permissions and information that must be provided annually. It is also very important to note that the information provided in Ascender ParentPortal is what the school uses to contact parents in the event of an emergency, so it is very important that all information is correct and up-to-date.

WHAT IF I HAVE A NEWLY ENROLLED STUDENT? WHAT IF DON'T SEE MY ENROLLED STUDENT IN ASCENDER PARENTPORTAL?
If you enrolled your student during summer enrollment, you must still complete annual registration forms. If you don't see your enrolled student when you log in, an Ascender ParentPortal ID is needed in order to link to your student and complete the annual registration forms.
Please email registration@lagovistaisd.net and your campus registrar to receive your student's Ascender ParentPortal ID. Please note that there may be slight delays in answering requests during peak times, such as this, but we will get it to you as quickly as possible!
Once you receive your student's Ascender ParentPortal ID from the campus registrar, please log into Ascender ParentPortal, select "Link to Enrolled Student", and enter the ParentPortal ID and the student's date of birth.
WHAT IF I SEE MY STUDENT, BUT DON'T HAVE A "REGISTRATION" OPTION?

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
