Career Goal: Be a Registered Nurse
When I graduate high school I want to pursue a career in the medical field with a license and a degree. I have always been a caring person and I love to help out others.
Career Overview
Registered nurses provide and coordinate patient care, and educate and support patients and families. They get paid $34.63 an hour and the outlook is well above the statewide average. The most common interest needed to be successful in this career is being a very social person. Being aware of others, coordinating with others, and reading are the top three most important skills. Working conditions are having to deal with angry patients, standing, working indoors, working in groups, and the importance of being exact. Other careers that are related to this field would be Radiation Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Nuclear Medicine Technologists.
Programs and Coursework
Some of the things I have to do after high school to land a job in this field would be going to a 4 year college to get my Associate's Degree. Another thing I have to do is go through little or no training to become competent. High school courses that need to be completed or that will help to be successful in this career are Anatomy, Chemistry, Community Health, Computer Applications, Human Development, Medical Ethics, Nutrition, Sociology, Statistics, World Languages, Research Methods, and Safety and First Aid/CPR. The related programs are Critical Care Nursing, Family Practice Nurse, a Pediatric Nurse, and an Adult Health Nurse.
