Are Hammurabi's laws FAIR or UNFAIR
By: Sam Reall
Is Hammurabi's code fair or unfair, just or unjust? Read on to find out.
Are Hammurabi's laws fair or cruel? Easy. Fair. His 282 laws where made to be for the well fair of the weak, and for the fairness of families. He also made the punishments harsh enough to make someone think twice before committing a crime of any sort. So what do you think? Are his laws really that bad?
Law #196
Law #196: If a man has knocked out the eye of a free man, his eye shall be knocked out. This law is fair because it means that whatever someone does to someone else, it gets done back to the person who did it. That means that if someone wants to violate a law, that they know that if they get caught, then it will get done back to them. I know that would stop me in my tracks from doing anything really bad. I would like to hear one reason that makes that a bad law.
Law #168
Law #168: If a man has determined to disinherit his son and has declared before the judge, “I cut off my son,” the judge shall inquire into the son’s past, and, if the son has not committed a grave misdemeanor . . ., the father shall not disinherit his son. That law must of stopped a lot of children from getting disowned by their parents. I know for one thing that less disowned children would a whole lot of unnecessary stress-or even fights!
So know what do *YOU* think?
So answer my question, have you been persuaded yet? The answer should be clear now, HIS LAWS *ARE* FAIR!!!
