Mill Creek Magic Messages
News and Updates from Mr. Ortman and Mr. Murtha 10/15/2021
Save the Date - 6th Grade Halloween Howl on Friday, October 22!
Two Amazing Character Ed. Assemblies for our Students!
On Monday, our 3rd and 4th Grades students attended an outdoor character ed. assembly featuring BMX stunt riders. Our students were wowed and amazed by their incredible BMX tricks and routines, but our guest also brought in important message with them. That message, which was woven throughout their presentation, was focused on following your passion. However, vital to finding success in following one's passion is doing it in the right way - ideas such as kindness, hard-work, perseverance, overcoming obstacles, and being safe were all touched on again and again. We think our students heard those messages... the incredible athletic feats they saw certainly kept them engaged!
On Friday, our 5th and 6th Grade students were dazzled by a basketball presentation which was pretty epic! The presenter, Corey Jones, included students in his display of basketball skills. He earned major cred. for having been a high school teammate of... Lebron James! But the majority of the cred. he received came from his ability to inspire our students and focus them on the importance of having high character. He reinforced our Creekers' Code, appropriately stating, "We're all on the same team!"
During both presentations, our 3rd-6th Grade students were already upholding those Creekers' Code tenents. Thank, you Mill Creekers!
IMPORTANT Car Rider Drop Off/Pick Up Information...
- Pull as far up as you are able. This allows more students to be dropped off/picked up at one time, which will move the line more quickly and minimize wait time.
- Be mindful of other people and vehicles as you pull out of the car line and into the "passing lane" to exit. Please pull out slowly and carefully.
- Please drive slowly as you enter and exit the car line and Mill Creek property.
- Please do your best to drop off as quickly (but still safely) as possible. If you need to exit your car to help your child, and this will require an extended period of time, we kindly ask that you park in one of the parking lot spaces and walk your child up to the sidewalk area. This will avoid major backups in the car line.
Thank you for your assistance!

Much as the leaves change color in fall, change can occur quickly at Mill Creek and in CB too...
I hope you find the change regarding our Friday, October 29 Halloween Celebration that I am communicating below to be a welcome one!
Central Bucks Elementary Schools have determined a way for us to now allow for food items involved with Halloween Classroom Celebrations to be consumed at school (this is a change from what was communicated in the Oct. 8 newsletter). The determination for if and how this will occur will come from respective Homeroom Parents in their work with the respective Classroom Teacher, but those classrooms that engage in food consumption during Halloween Classroom Celebrations will adhere to the following guidelines:
- Food consumption will occur for less than 15 minutes.
- During food consumption, students will be spaced as far apart as feasible.
Additional information about Friday, October 29:
- Our Halloween Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. The Halloween Parade is weather dependent. If inclement weather occurs on the 29th, we will hold classroom celebrations only.
- Classroom celebrations will occur after the Halloween Parade. Specific start times will be determined by respective Homeroom Parents and Classroom Teachers. Classroom Teachers will communicate this information to their parents.
Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend!

From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
I have to admit that my excitement level is building as I come upon my first legitimate Halloween at Mill Creek. I cannot wait to see our kiddos express themselves and show their creativity in costume. Our students brought their Halloween style and color last year despite some limitations we had to impose, but I think we can all agree that the return of costumes generates a lot of excitement.
I am not much of a guts and gore type of person (I avoid most horror movies), so elementary Halloween is right up my alley - spooky but not horrifying. I know our students will be putting a good deal of imagination into this year's costume choice, so I am also going to have to put my imagination to work as to what I show up wearing on October 29. Mr. Ortman and I may... or may not... or may... be in kahoots on our costume ideas - you will just have to wait and see!
I look forward to October 29 and will also enjoy the anticipation of our Mill Creek Halloween Celebration!
Have a great weekend!

Information from CB Technology and Innovation...
Currently, the Technology and Innovation Department blocks Microsoft Office 365 logins to Outlook, OneDrive, ClassLink, and Canvas from foreign countries. This aids in protecting our CBSD user accounts and organization from malicious computer attacks from outside of the United States.
Students who travel cannot assume their devices will work once they leave the United States. For student out-of-country access requests, please know that access to technology for vacations will not be approved at this time.
Career Readiness Information...
Welcome back to Sparks. You will be receiving these articles on a regular basis through your building’s newsletter with the goal of career education for all Central Bucks students.
Last spring, the students in grades 3-6 were introduced to Smart Futures. Smart Futures is an online career development platform which focuses on grade-specific activities for students and manages the outcomes of the activities in a portfolio which meets the required PA Career Readiness Standards. Classroom teachers will be working with students in Smart Futures. Last year students in grades 3-6 completed a limited number of activities but this year we will be asking all elementary students to complete the activities for their grade. Any student who chooses, can do the activities in the previous grade band to have a complete portfolio for career readiness. For the most part, students can do the earlier activities independently so it might be an opportunity for you to see Smart Futures at home with your daughter or son. We are asking students not to go beyond the activities assigned to their grade.
SF allows students to discover what they like to do, learn about careers they might want to investigate and even how to develop a budget. To learn more about SF, watch this short video and you can always ask your child to log onto SF to see what they are learning.
