News from the Principal
Hello Discovery Families,
Next week we look forward to returning our first full grade level of students back to Discovery - 2nd grade. These students will be joining students who in our Lighthouse Program who have been on campus since January. It's been wonderful to hear the buzz of learning back on campus and to see students' in-person.
After 2nd graders return on March 8, 1st grade students are tentatively scheduled to return on March 22nd and Kindergarten students are tentatively scheduled to return on March 29th. 2nd grade families just learned of their students' teacher placement on Friday and we hope to know more about our Kindergarten and 1st grade students' placement, soon. Thank you for your patience as we make these adjustments to student and teacher schedules. It's been a busy process and one that has taken immense planning.
Students who return to in-person learning will be on campus from 9:00 -12:00 p.m. and will have instruction at school in English Language Arts (ELA), Math and SEL. Teachers will provide an outdoor mask break and movement breaks as needed. Students will eat breakfast and lunch at home, but free Grab and Go meals will be available for all interested students). Students will then return home and continue their learning online with a variety of possible learning options (small group, asynchronous, specialist time, independent work).
If you are a 2nd grade parent and your child is returning to in-person learning, please plan to join our Return to School Parent Information Night for 2nd grade families - this Thursday, March 4, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
We appreciate your ongoing support as we continue to navigate this challenging year.
In partnership,
Mrs. Koehnen
Proud Principal

Kindergarten Registration for Next Year Begins Today - March 1, 2021
Do you have a child who will be at least five years old by August 31, 2021, who will attend kindergarten in Mukilteo School District this fall? Registration for kindergarten classes in the 2021-22 school year begins March 1, 2021. Many elementary schools will have their own kindergarten programs. Some students will attend Pathfinder Kindergarten Center, located behind Fairmount Elementary on Beverly Park Road, based on their home address. Use the online kindergarten look-up tool to enter an address and find which school your kindergartner will attend.
Starting today, March 1, you can register online or make an appointment with your neighborhood school to pick up a registration packet.
Immunizations are required for in person school attendance are established by the State of Washington. Students must be current in immunizations to attend school. A new state law states that students who are out of compliance with immunization requirements will be excluded from school until those conditions are met. Learn more about the state’s new immunization requirements on the district immunizations website.
School Immunization Information
Is your student current on their immunizations?
We are hopeful that a return to the classroom is on the horizon. In order to come back to In Person learning it is mandatory your student/s have a current, signed Washington State Certificate of Immunization (CIS) or Certificate of Exemption (COE). If you are unsure your student is up to date with their shots, here are some ways you can obtain the required records for school attendance:
- Sign up to obtain your child’s Washington state immunization records from the Department of Health: https://wa.myir.net/register/. Once you are registered, you can log in, print the record, sign it and provide to the school.
- If your child was born in another state/country, obtain a copy of your child’s immunization record from their pediatrician. Both the clinic record and a handwritten Washington State CIS are needed for a valid record.
- Certificate of Exemption (COE) forms must be signed by parent and healthcare provider. Personal exemption for MMR vaccine is no longer accepted per Washington state law.
