November 6th - Two Hour Delay

All WCPSS schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, November 6th for state and local elections.

The law requires that if local election officials ask to use a public school campus as a polling place, the request must be honored. Measures will be in place to ensure the safety of school campuses during the polling process. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Steidinger.

READvolution

Don't forget to log those minutes of reading time through Friday, Nov. 16th. The Readvolution challenge features both individual and school-wide components, as well as goals for each. Students who achieve the goal of reading 20 minutes per day throughout the allotted time frame (for a total of 800 minutes) will receive TWO complimentary ticket vouchers to a Hurricanes home game!!

TREASURE CHEST

Boosterthon Fun Run!

I'm sure your kids have been coming home excited about the Boosterthon Fun Run! And they should be! We have lots to celebrate already, including the fact that OCE has raised more on the first night of pledging this year compared to last year.

We're off to a great start but we still need your help! Register your student here if you haven't done so already. Pledge for your child and encourage family and friends to do so as well with customized emails and videos you can create right on your child's Fun Run dashboard. And don't forget to share on social media!

Remember, our goal is to raise $33,000 to use to purchase new technology for the school.

At the time of this newsletter's publication, the top classes in total pledges per lap for each grade are:

Kindergarten: Diaz, $32 per lap

1st grade: Fretz, $39 per lap

2nd grade: O’Hare, $39 per lap

3rd grade: Fink, $40 per lap

4th grade: Montgomery, $48 per lap!!!

5th grade: McCarty, $20 per lap (but Trainor is RIGHT behind by $.5 per lap!!)

A special congrats to Ms. Abramo's second grade class for having the highest registration rate on the first night with 74% or students participating! Way to go! Check out the Boosterthon team below having a little fun celebrating them during lunch on Tuesday.

Box Tops Collection Deadline

The next national Box Tops collection deadline is Friday, October 19th. Send in those Box Tops to your teacher or drop them in the box in the school lobby. Don't forget to label them with your teacher's name because the class with the most Box Tops will win a $50 gift card to use in their classroom!

CREW NEWS

Ready, Set, Fun Run! A Message from Coach Roberts

During the next several weeks we will practice Physical Fitness and its components

(cardio, strength, muscle endurance and flexibility) in PE and learn all about why it is so

important to stay physically fit.

Please send in a favorite photo of your student being physically active. We will place them on the PE bulletin board to see what the students at OCE are doing to stay fit.

Thank you!

Crayola Color Cycle Program

Don't forget to drop off your used markers, highlighters, and dry erase markers in the ColorCycle donation drop boxes at school before November 30th.

The Crayola ColorCycle program repurposes used markers rather than sending them to landfills.

Students and teachers all around OCE will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. Please help support our efforts by sending in any used markers you may have around the house -- even non-Crayola brands! Highlighters and dry erase markers can also be included.

Kids Corps Club Hurricane Relief Project

Empty those piggy banks and help the OCE Kids Corps Club support Pine Valley Elementary School in Wilmington affected by Hurricane Florence.

The #letthecoinsflo coin drive continues through November 1st.

Send in your coins and help a school in need!

LEGO Club

LEGO club is a staff led BEFORE-school club for K, 1st and 2nd grade students only.

LEGO Club focuses on inspiring children to think creatively, reason systematically, and use their imagination to play. LEGO Club will take place on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the library starting January 2nd. Students must be dropped off promptly at 8:00 a.m.

PLEASE REGISTER EACH CHILD INDIVIDUALLY. If you are interested, please fill out this registration form. There will be a $5 registration fee. You can send the fee into your child's teacher with your child's name on it. Make checks payable to OCE PTA or use this link for online payment.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE NOV. 9TH.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Brittany Cabaleiro (2nd grade Track 1) at bcabaleiro@wcpss.net.
