Among the many highlights of another busy week:
More than a hundred HHS students participated in an unforgettable field trip on Tuesday morning; thanks to grant funding from the Hingham Education Foundation, members of the World War II and Holocaust classes assembled in the auditorium but traveled virtually to Auschwitz for a powerful learning experience.
The concert season kicked off with outstanding performances by our choral groups on Tuesday night.
A new sports season got underway, with 487 student athletes starting competition as members of 21 different winter teams.
Members of our Quiz Bowl team learned that they will face Lexington High School in the first round of WGBH’s “High School Quiz Show” on Sunday, January 22nd, at 10:30 AM. If you’d like to join the studio audience in the Brighton studios that day, click this link, and help HHS to “outroar” the Lexington Lions. Parking and tickets are free!
Looking ahead…
The Student Council will hold its annual ping pong tournament on Monday night, and there’s still time for students to sign up.
HHS student athletes and parents are invited to the school auditorium for a presentation about the “three mental keys to wellness and performance” on Monday at 7 PM; the event is sponsored by the cross-country and track boosters.
The concert season continues with the band on Tuesday 12/20 and the orchestra on Thursday 12/22; both concerts begin at 7 PM in the auditorium.
The School Council continues its work on the School Improvement Plan on Wednesday 12/21 at 5 PM.
We have a full day of school on Friday 12/23 but then begin a long-awaited vacation!
Last week, we announced here that our athletic director, Jim Quatromoni, had served on a panel at the MIAA’s Addressing Hate in School Sports conference at TD Garden. This week, we asked Coach Q to describe what the experience meant to him. Here’s the answer from our state’s current Athletic Director of the Year: “I was proud to represent Hingham High School at the ‘Addressing Hate in School Sports’ Conference last Thursday. It allowed for the opportunity to make a firm and powerful statement that our school stands with others across Massachusetts in confronting these issues in high school sports. Moreover, it strengthens my resolve to work in partnership with other leaders, as we seek continual improvement, both proactively and situationally.”
The daily notices, the full school calendar, and the student newspaper, can always be viewed on the HHS website. Look for details on the website and in our weekly PTO newsletter.
Have a great weekend, everybody!

Anybody entering HHS this week enjoyed new greenery installed last weekend. One more way a great PTO helps to lift our spirits!

The HHS Quiz Bowl team will compete against Lexington High School in the first round of WGBH’s “High School Quiz Show” on Sunday 1/22 at 10:30 AM. If you'd like to join the studio audience, reserve your spot now!
Criminal Justice Field Trip
Students in our Criminal Justice class visited Hingham District Court this week and received a warm welcome from Judge Bradley. At HHS, field trips are just one way that learning transcends the classroom.
