January Newsletter

Welcome Back to School

Happy New Year!

It's a new year, and a new newsletter format. We hope this method will get information to parents quickly and consistently.

Fifth grade is in charge of the cafeteria bulletin board this month. Talk with your child about a New Year's Resolution they would like to set. We will be adding them to the board and tracking our progress!

Test Format Update

As more information is coming to us about the format of future EOG tests, we will be updating the format of our tests to more adequately prepare students. The math test on Wednesday, January 9 will contain more open-ended questions and fewer multiple choice questions. The point value for each question will be adjusted to align to its level and complexity. If you have question about content, please see the 5th grade team site, which is linked to the McDougle homepage.

  • Geometry: Understanding Hierarchies of Polygons
  • Fractions: Extending conceptional understandings and performing operations

  • Extensive grammar review
  • Exploring Poetry through the Shabazz residency

Please Send Supplies

We've almost reached the half way point, and our supplies are more than half way gone! Please send in the following supplies with your students.

  • Cap Erasers
  • Clorox Wipes
  • Tissues
  • Expo Markers
  • Pencils
  • Mini Post-Its

Some students have filled their notebooks. Check with your student to see if they need a new math (blue) or science (green) notebook.

Help Wanted

Later this month, students will be participating in an ecosystems project that requires each partnership to have a 2-liter soda bottle. Please send rinsed, CLEAR plastic bottles in with your student. Unfortunately, we can not accept green tinted plastics, only clear.

We will also need parent volunteers to cut the bottles. If you are interested, please email your classroom teacher.
