A Word From Our Principal - Mr. Agee
Pacific Intermediate Families,
Third quarter is almost complete and we are looking at the final stretch of the year! Third quarter ends March 12th, and we want to continue to stress the importance of helping your child keep their grades up as we enter our final quarter.
We are also asking for your help with sending students with water bottles to the school. All students at Pacific Intermediate have been given a water bottle. Additional water bottles are available, and students may also purchase a bottle of water in the mornings from the cafeteria if they have money in their account.
We will be hosting a book fair for students March 5th - March 12th. During this fair, students will have time with their classes to view and purchase items. Due to COVID restrictions, we are limiting this fair to only students and staff. If you have additional questions about the book fair, please email our librarian, Mrs. Henley, at lhenley@mvr3.k12.mo.us for additional information.
Spring break will be March 22nd-26th. During this week, school will be closed. We hope students take the time to relax, complete and turn in any missing work, and enjoy the outdoors.
Yours in education,
Matt Agee
Pacific Intermediate Principal

Hello-
Hopefully, the coldest weather is behind us and we can look forward to the first signs of Spring! As always please continue to look for our weekly emails and to check your student's grades in SIS. Please make sure coats and masks are getting washed. If you need anything please, let us know.
English:
English classes are working on finishing our research projects to present them to classmates. We focused on using encyclopedias, books, and internet sources to get facts about animals, people, and countries. We also focused on getting information without plagiarizing and citing sources correctly. For our presentations, we are creating Google Slides slideshows with pictures and facts. For fourth quarter, we are looking forward to starting argumentative essays.
Math:
Math classes are learning to write equations in one and two variables and how to solve simple equations. The advanced math classes are on the last chapter of the 6th-grade book and will end the year with the first 5 chapters of the 7th-grade book.
Social Studies:
Social Studies will be discovering classical Greek and Roman Civilizations over the next two months. The knowledge and politics of Greece and Rome directly impacts how our democracy works in the United States. Students will understand the connection between the history of the classical civilizations and the history of our own society.
Science:
We are wrapping up our Matter unit and will have a mini-unit on the Earth's Surface. We will finish out the year with the Ecology Unit. If your child is absent, all assignments are posted in Goggle Classroom so they can keep caught up.
Reading:
Currently, students are reading novels. Some of the skills students are working on include comprehension skills, context clues, vocabulary, and figurative language.
Ask your student which novel they are currently reading and give you a brief summary of what they have read so far.
Suggested questions might include:
Setting: When or where the story takes place?
Characters: Who is the main character? Supporting characters?
Point of View: Who is telling the story?
What genre is the book?
Counselor's Corner- Ms. Diamond
The month of March will be busy. Term 3 ends March 12th, and your child’s report card will be emailed on March 19th. If your child is making a letter grades of D’s or F’s their teacher should have contacted you to discuss. The goal of contacting you will be to work with parents to help all students be successful. Congratulations, in advance, to those students with good grades. Your parents and PI are proud of you. To students struggling with grades, do not give up. Success can happen through effort and change.
Last month in guidance lessons 5th graders learned about “Accepting Differences in Others” and how to use commonalities with others for conflict resolution. During March, students will be registering for 6th grade and we will be talking about differences in expectations from grade to grade. This will help them be better prepared to transition to 6th grade.
Sixth graders last month in guidance learned about “Respect: Give It To Earn It.” This lesson dealt with how to earn other respect by following rules and doing your part in a mutual dependent relationship. In March, Mrs. Borgsmiller, Riverbend’s School Counselor, will be doing a lesson plan on transitioning grade levels and buildings. She will discuss class elective options and life at Riverbend Middle School. Students will tentatively register for 7th grade classes.
Have a great Spring Break. Enjoy time with your family.
Library News-Mrs. Henley
We are working hard to keep kids reading and raise critical funds for our school with an in-person, spring Scholastic Book Fair running March 5th-12th. We are so excited to be able to offer students a sense of normalcy and joy after they’ve missed so much this year. Our Fair will connect your kids to notable books and inspiring characters — helping them become lifelong readers. And, all purchases will directly support our school!
The safety and well-being of your child is our priority. We’re taking extra precautions to host a safe, socially distanced Fair at our school, focusing on preventive measures. Students will have the option for contactless checkout using Book Fair eWallet, a convenient digital payment account that allows your child to shop the Fair cash-free. Families also have the option to shop online for an additional contactless shopping experience. You can shop over 6,000 products — and all orders ship directly to your home (free shipping on book-only orders over $25*)!
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:
