Thank you for your participation in Parent/Teacher conferences. The opportunity to meet together to talk about progress and set goals for growth is vital for student success. Please contact your child's teacher at any time to continue this shared effort.
Thank you for completing both the online and paper surveys. The online survey is used by D200 to inform us of areas of strength and areas for growth. The SRTS survey will be used in our grant application with the City of Woodstock.
Thank you for your Book Fair purchases! The proceeds from this sale allow us to make additional purchases for our school library.
Thank you for your Taffy Apple orders that support the music program. Many of you carried home bags and boxes of apples to be distributed to family and friends.
Thank you for the many positive comments that were shared over conferences. Your input is important and we're open to any feedback you provide that will guide our planning and programming.
Thank you for encouraging REGULAR ATTENDANCE, RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR, RESPECT, and HEALTHY HABITS. We look forward to a fantastic school year!
WALK OR BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY
Most of our Olson students are transported to school by bus because of the distance to school and/or because railroad tracks or major roads necessitate bus transportation. However some students walk or ride their bikes to school.
D200 is partnering with the City of Woodstock to apply for a Safe Routes to School grant that would provide funding for additional sidewalks around Dean and Olson. These are the 3 steps we are taking as we are considered for the grant:
1. Participation in Walk to School Day 2018
2. The Parent Survey you completed last week
3. A three day tally of transportation to and from Olson
Who Do We Contact?
We're working to put together a contact list to guide families to the information about who or where to go to get the most useful information about a range of issues including health, grades, absences, community resources etc. We'll have this ready for you by November 1st and will link it to the weekly newsletter.
Your first contact is usually the classroom teacher or the main Olson office. If you have any other concerns about school related issues, please contact the school office (815-338-0473) and we'll direct you to the person or department who may best be able to assist.
TECH TIPS FOR PARENTS
This website provides many resources for parents, teachers, and families. As your family set boundaries and establishes routines for internet use and device responsibility, the articles and links provide resources that may be helpful.
Parents are encouraged to consider the $30 Chromebook Replacement Plan. If you have not already done so, please contact the office for a form. This fee would cover any expenses incurred due to damage to a school chromebook.
EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING PRESENTATION - NOVEMBER 6
- paying attention
- organization, planning, and prioritizing
- starting tasks and staying focused
- regulating emotions
- self-monitoring
If you answered yes to any of the above, we welcome you to attend a parent presentation on "Executive Functioning". These skills are crucial for learning and development, and all children can develop these skills.
Olson will host a presentation by Dr. Terry-Ann A. Hislop from North Shore Pediatric Therapy who will share information about how parent can build and encourage development of executive functioning skills in children. Dr. Hislop comes to us with extensive experience with both pediatric and adolescent populations, and she will be available to answer your questions and share valuable ideas.
November 6 - 6pm - 7pm at Olson Elementary
