Snow Day & 2 Hour Delay Reminder
While we avoided school closure this week, we may be faced with a delayed start or snow day in the coming weeks. Below, please find our process for the logistical realities attached to a weather closure or delay.
Before and during inclement weather, we consult with the relevant town departments, MPS administration and superintendents from neighboring districts. We also monitor weather forecasts, including those provided by the Town of Milton.
At times, the decision is clear and we are able to announce that school is closed or delayed the evening before school. However, sometimes the forecast is difficult to predict with any certainty for Milton, and those decisions are best made in the early morning.
When we experience inclement weather that impacts our schools, there are two options that we will consider: a 2 hour delay or a complete cancellation of school.
If we have a 2 hour delay:
The school day will start 2 hours later than a regular day.
Buses will run on a 2 hour delay. Please be aware that some buses could be running behind as they navigate the snow/tough road conditions.
There will be no before school program or before school activities at any school.
After School Enrichment, after school activities and evening school based activities will proceed as planned.
Breakfast will not be served at any school.
Lunch will be served at every school.
If school is canceled due to inclement weather:
All after school and evening activities will also be canceled.
When possible, we will communicate the decision to cancel or delay the evening before school. When the forecast dictates waiting until morning, we will make every effort to communicate the decision to cancel or delay school by 5:30am. This announcement will be communicated to you via local media, the MPS website, and via email, text and phone. If you need to confirm or update your current contact information, please contact your child's schools administrative assistant.
MPS Calendar 2024-25 School Year

MHS Culture Cats
The Office of Equity, in partnership with MHS English teacher Jess Norton, has created an advisory class that supports MHS student leaders in facilitating equity initiatives and restorative practices throughout the district. The advisory group has named themselves the Culture Cats and the twelve students are learning how to become circle keepers and launch DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) initiatives at the high school and district-wide.
On January 12, the Culture Cats (Trinity Atkins James, Ayanna Jean-Christian, Eylon Craghead-Goldman, Noah Woodley, Samarah Marks, Ashanti Miller-Reinoso, Jasmine Bethea, Taylor Chan, William Malec, Kevbe Egodogbare, Sharon Liu, and Charlize Mariluz) facilitated their first community building circles with Pierce students. They did a wonderful job creating supportive spaces for middle school students to express their identities and perspectives! The high school students gave advice to Pierce students about how to be resilient in the face of adversity and how to navigate complex social situations and academic challenges.

Winter Bowling
Milton Sports for All, a recreational, inclusive sports program, is returning with candle-pin bowling this winter at Cunningham Hall. Candle-pin bowling uses smaller balls which are easier for kids to bowl. This year we have expanded the program to include a night for our high school bowlers. The program is open to all Milton residents in grades 4-12.
Our season kicked off last week and will run through March 28. Details on days and times for different grades can be found here.
- Registration fee is $20.
- Maximum of 24 kids in each time slot.
- If cost is an issue, please reach out at Miltonsportsforall@gmail.com. We do not want price to be a factor in having your child join the fun.
- This is a drop-off event. While you are always welcome to stay, it is not required.
- Please note that bowling is loud! If your child has any sensory issues, you’re welcome to send them with noise-canceling head-phones or any other resource they might need.
It's not too late to sign up and bowlers are still welcome to join. We will close registration when the sessions are full. You can register for bowling here. We look forward to seeing you on the lanes!
Community Service & Employment Opportunities
Are you looking for community service opportunities? Throughout the year you will be able to access any community service opportunities here. There are already several opportunities available for students to volunteer. Get involved now! If you are looking for employment or internship opportunities this page will be updated throughout the year.
Milton Sports for All is offering Candlepin Bowling and we need your help!! We are looking for high school students to help with scoring and bowling with students in grades 4-8! This event is always held at Cunningham Hall on Wednesday afternoons starting January 10th- March 27th. If you can help out from 4:30-5:1 or 5:30-6:15 or both then please sign up! Please email us at msfavolunteers@gmail.com. A fun time is always had by all!
Innovative Pathways-Schools to Careers
Innovative Pathways allow students early insight to careers that suit their interests and abilities and encourage paths that they may not otherwise have discovered. Our partners, School to Careers and MassHire, provide Milton students opportunities to forge these discoveries. Both will help connect students with local employers in specific industries for our Internship Program and help to offer real life work experiences for our students in our Career Readiness class.
Click here for specific programs that may interest you. This will be updated as more opportunities are confirmed. Contact Joyce White with any questions jwhite@miltonps.org.
MFE Annual Appeal
An education from the Milton Public Schools is the foundation for excellence for all of our students. Together with your support, the Milton Foundation for Education (MFE) has been building this critical foundation for nearly 30 years. Last year, generous supporters like you funded over $100,000 to Milton Public Schools through teacher grants, district-wide initiatives, and student scholarships. Over the years, the MFE has distributed over $4,000,000 to support more than 50,000 students in all six Milton Public Schools.
The success of the MFE truly depends on families and friends like you. Your generous gift will allow the MFE to continue investing in groundbreaking initiatives and enrichment opportunities that inspire our teachers and every student in Milton, inside and outside the classroom. Every dollar donated to the MFE helps spark innovation and energize the learning experience for students and educators in Milton. We now have even more opportunities to make a lasting impact. As we start the new year, for the love of education, our teachers, students, and community, please consider making a gift today.
The work MFE is able to do is only possible with your donations. Thank you for your partnership and support. We wish you and your family a very Happy New Year!
Senior Class Resources
Class of 2024 Senior Activities
The Class of 2024 is getting ready to graduate! We know what you are thinking - we can’t believe it either!
At MHS, Student Government, their advisors and MHS administrators organize most of the major events - prom, senior week, awards nights, and graduation. Parents and guardians are charged with organizing just a few events in the week leading up to graduation on Sunday June, 2.
Student government has polled the senior class and a few events have risen to the top of their wish list. The week before graduation is a busy one with awards nights and graduation rehearsal, and it’s a short week with Memorial Day that Monday. With that in mind, we are hoping to organize lawn signs for all seniors, a fun “field day” afternoon for them on Wednesday or Thursday (May 29 or 30), a Senior Walk/Clap out through the four elementary schools on Friday (May 31) and a Senior Lunch back at MHS on Friday (May 31) at noon.
Please take a look at the sign up genius linked here to see if you can help out with one of the events or activities. More details and a Senior parent/guardian volunteer meeting will follow later this month.
Please reach out with any questions. We look forward to sending off the Class of 2024 in style!
