NO SCHOOL MONDAY SEPT. 4 - LABOR DAY HOLIDAY
Did you know?
In April, Jackson's submission was chosen as one of the winners and we immediately ordered the bench. It arrived in late May and Jackson was honored at our 5th grade awards for his strong desire to honor Jaydan and celebrate his spirit. He also had the chance to present the bench privately to the Thompson's on the last day of school.
As we continue to celebrate Jaydan and Jackson, the bench was installed this summer and this week we (Tori) will conduct short lessons for all grades on how to use the bench. I can think of no greater legacy then teaching students how to pass along kindness, even on our playground! We will share pictures next week!
David's Law - Important for all parents to know
A new bullying law takes effect today (September 1st). The major change from the previous legislation is that it now covers cyber bullying, and the definition of bullying has been expanded to include even one instance of aggression toward another person.
I will meet with 4th and 5th graders to lay out the law and share with them the seriousness of these issues, especially as it relates to social media and things they might post about another student. Please reiterate with your student the importance of not posting hurtful things about other people, as this can become a disciplinary issue at school as well as a legal problem if it's serious enough.

A NOTE FROM NURSE CUNNINGHAM
Mosquito bites are rather common during this time of year and the itching associated with them can become distracting as well as a risk for infection. Please apply anti-itch cream to any bites your children may have in the morning before school so their learning is not interrupted by the itchy feeling or a trip to the nurse. You can also reduce the risk for bug bites by applying bug repellent to their clothing before outside play/games and before school. By applying to their clothing, the effects of the bug repellent are lengthened. Please do NOT send bug spray to school. Bug repellents must be treated as medications according to the Texas State guidelines. Mosquitos are most active in the morning and at dusk so applying before school is adequate.
