Specials for the Week of October 20th-24th
P.E. will be on Tuesday and Thursday next week. Please wear tennis shoes. Please return your library book on Monday so you can check out another one.
Julian Rodriguez was our Star of the Week. We loved seeing all of his pictures and loved his favorite book "Green Eggs and Ham"
Thank you for sending in permission slips and money for our field trip to Corn Dawgs.
- PTA wants to remind you that Fundraiser Pickup will be ONE day only- Friday, October 24th from 7:30 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.
LANGUAGE ARTS
We are working on:
- Building our sight word vocabulary- (Work on Words): Our new words this week: they, am, see,you, day
- Recognizing upper and lowercase letters, learning letter sounds, and recognizing color words
- Working on recognizing rhyming words
- Counting, blending, and segmenting syllables
- Features of Non-fiction text
- Creating pictures and phonetically spelling words to tell a story- focusing on setting & characters
- Working in guided reading groups- please have your child read the book to you and return it the next day
- Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers

Math
We are working on:
- BUILDing Mathmeticians during our Math Workshop
Using math manipulatives to learn about shapes and numbers
Daily calendar math
- Counting by tens and ones to 100
- Writing numbers and counting sets to 10
- 1-1 correspondence
- Comparing sets- more, less, same
- Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:
- Learning about maps and globes and our geographical location in the world
- Learning about Columbus Day
- Learning about animals on the farm and the role they play
Craig Character Award
Alana Cox earned the Craig Character award for showing determination! She will be recognized on the Craig news show next week.
REMINDERS
- We are kicking off our year of "Craig Cares" activities with our Great Days of Service Toiletries Drive the week of October 20-23rd and will be sponsored by PTA and Student Council. Each grade level will collect specific items and kindergarten will be collecting toothpaste and toothbrushes.
- Fundraiser Pickup will be ONE day only- Friday, October 24th from 7:30 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.
- Our Mega Minute Celebration will be on October 29th from 10:10- 10:40 in the Media Center. You are welcome to attend our reading celebration.
- Our field trip to Corn Dawgs is October 31st. Parents are welcome to meet us at the farm.
