Roadrunner Rundown
September 29, 2023
Message from Mrs. Gault-
Greetings Roadrunner Families,
We have lots of things coming up in the near future as we welcome in October! Ocotber is Dyslexia Awareness Month, our APEX Roadrunner Dash kicks off on Monday, the end of the 1st nine weeks is October 12th, picture retakes, we then have the little fall break and then we will finish off the month with Red Ribbon Week dress up days and discussions of healthy choices. Whew! Lots of fun ahead!
Before we get to all of that, there are some things that we would like your assistance with:
1. In the car dismissal line- we REALLY need you to have your car tag up and VISIBLE until you have your student(s) in the car. Believe it or not we have lots of little friends who aren't always sure of their car. Your car tag helps us know who goes where as well as if your car tag is no longer visible, taht signals to us that you have your child and are ready to leave. THANK YOU SO MUCH. If you need addtional tags for pick up folks please swing by the office, we will be happy to help get you what you need.
2. If you are asked to pull into the parking lot at car dismissal. Please round the corner and pull into a parking space. Please do not just roll up past the #1 spot and stop there - this causes a hold up in the line. Please go to the parking lot with parking spaces. THANK YOU!
3. THIS IS A BIGGIE...We need your help! Please help us talk with your students about treating others the way that they would like to be treated. We strongly believe in the Golden Rule and it seems that recently we have had more incidents that we would like of students involved in physical situations, name calling, inappropriate comments, derogatory comments about others, and to others. This is not okay. These incidents cause hurt- whether that is physically, mentally or emotionally. We are disheartened by some comments and actions that have occured recently. No child should feel that they do not belong, no one should not want to come to school because of the way that they are treated or the comments made to them. No child should come to school and experience being pushed, kicked, hit or pinched by others. We strive to be an inclusive school trying to build KIND little people. Our campus really is pretty diverse. Fun fact - Did you know that we have right at 23 languages spoken in Boerne ISD! Even cooler fact is that Van Raub has about 16 of those 23 languages spoken here! How cool is that! What a unique opportunity for us to learn about and from each other and to celebrate and embrace our differences!
This is honestly all of our PUT ME IN COACH moment...our opportunity to impact something bigger than ourselves, our school, or our even community. We have the opportunity to work together to foster KIND, COMPASSIONATE, EMPATHETIC and RESPECTFUL HUMANS that share the message of kindness where ever they go and follow the Golden Rule, even when no one is looking. I don't mean to be on a soap box but this is very important to not only me but our entire VRES staff. The whole world could honestly use more empathy and kindness - why can't that start here with us? Our number one priority at VRES is to help to guide, develop, support and ultimately send forth good, kind humans and that takes all of us! Thank you for your support. We are counting on you to help us!
Have a fantastic weekend and we will see you next week!

RAVE ABOUT A ROADRUNNER
Our teachers have the opportunity to nominate students for doing fantastic things on our campus. These nominations can be for academic or character-related greatness. We believe in promoting positive character traits, student success, and of course, most importantly being a good human! A few of the many traits that we promote are kindness, empathy, perseverance, leadership, service, responsibility, compassion, honesty, and treating your neighbor the way you would want to be treated. It is great to celebrate our students each morning. We are blessed that Van Raub has so many amazing kiddos to rave about!
Here are this week's Raveworthy Roadrunners:
BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK
Blessings in a Backpack is a National non profit that supports over 600 BISD students by providing food for students in need over the weekends and holidays.
We meet Thursdays at 9 am at St Peter’s Church Gymnasium (Main St, Boerne) to organize the food and pack bags via an assembly line. Anyone - including children of all ages, friends, family, and neighbors - are welcome. In addition to general packing, each week we will need ONE Van Raub Blessings Leader. The Leader needs to sign up in advance, but general packers do not.
