HSE to Keep Students in 100% Virtual Instruction
The Board will reassess the situation on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 to determine the best learning model for students moving forward.
We greatly appreciate your understanding and flexibility during this time. We ask that you continue to report COVID-19 positive cases and close contacts while students are 100% virtual.
- Please continue to contact the school if virtual absences occur or are planned.
- Virtual attendance includes participating in scheduled Zoom calls, and completing and submitting assignments.
- If a student must miss a Zoom call but can catch up on missed work by the end of the next school day, they will be counted as virtual present.
Holiday Light Recycling Program
Outside Door 2 is a green bin that says Recycle Holiday Lights Here. Please place your unwanted holiday lights there, any time between now and December 17.
Why Recycle?
- Holiday lights are made from copper, glass, and plastic—valuable materials that can actually be recycled, reclaimed, and turned into new products.
- The option is sending your recyclable lights to a landfill. It's worth it to recycle!
- Please remove all packing material, garland, and other storage equipment.
On the first day of collecting, 48 square feet of holiday lights were saved from
landfills and will be recycled. This is fantastic news! Let's keep it up!

HSE Superintendent Announces Retirement at the End of the 2020-2021 School Year
Hamilton Southeastern Schools Superintendent Dr. Allen Bourff announced on November 30 that he will retire at the end of the 2020-21 school year. Dr. Bourff’s last day on the job will be June 30, 2021.
Dr. Bourff joined HSE as superintendent in January 2015. He has steadily guided the school corporation since then, bringing innovative ideas and a student-centered focus that has contributed to the continued success of HSE Schools and its graduates.
“Dr. Bourff has transformed our instructional framework with HSE21 and fostering community partnerships with Conner Prairie and the City of Fishers,” said Michelle Fullhart, president of the Board of School Trustees. “He has also been integral in the opening of two new schools – Southeastern Elementary and Hamilton Southeastern-Fishers Academy. We especially appreciate his leadership during this unforeseen and challenging year.”

Snack Attack
Sand Creek Elementary continues to have the Snack Attack program available for those families with a need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the week/end until they can receive a hot meal at school.
Here's how the program works:
Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. There is no cost to you or the school.
Snack Attack sacks are available each week for pick at the Main Doors of SCE during virtual learning.
- Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Jennifer Jacks, School Counselor at jjacks@hse.k12.in.us or 317-915-4270.
