Principal's Corner
We have had a very exciting month at Cedar Forest! Our students participated in four house meetings, each focused on our character traits aligned with bullying prevention month. Our students did an activity each week that is displayed in our main hallway! On Friday we had a GREAT turnout out for a slightly rainy trunk or treat. Thank you to everyone who came out!
Over the past week our students have been participating in our APEX kick off, and will conclude with our fun run on Friday. If the weather is sunny we will hold the run outside and parents are welcome to come cheer students on! If it is rainy we will need to hold the event on a modified schedule indoor and will not have any spectators. We will share a message on Thursday evening letting you know the final schedule. Hopefully we will have sunny skies!
We can not thank you enough for your continued support of our school. We have had such amazing support through donations, event attendance, volunteers and participation. This has been a very challenging year for our students and staff, and your support is vital to our continued success! Please know that our doors are always open and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns!
Warmly,
Allison Langridge

Transportation updates
Bus Transportation
SCPS transportation is working diligently to ensure that all of our students get to and from school safely. However, there are many challenges with driver shortages across the division. We have made a few changes at CFES to help you should be aware of.
- We now dismiss students by 1st and 2nd load buses. All buses that are at CFES at 3:30 are called first. Those students are leaving CFES by 3:40. This allows buses to get students home and return to CFES for another group as needed. Please be aware that we are not waiting for parent pick up to finish before letting students go. Please make sure teachers and students are aware if they have a change in dismissal.
- We typically have 3-4 buses that are "2nd load", meaning they leave slightly later, typically by 4pm.
If a bus is late, or if students are riding a substitute bus home we send a blackboard message through email and text. Please be aware that we do not have information on AM bus changes.
Parent Pick Up
Our parent pick up line is moving smoothly. To help us, please make sure you have a number, clearly displayed in the drivers side dashboard. It is very helpful if you hold up the number as you get to the front of the line. Please keep the number displayed until your student has been loaded into the car.
If you do not have a parent pick up number, please call our main office and we will send a number home with your student.
THANK YOU!
A message from our PTO
Thank you to all of those who participated in our Chipotle Spirit Night, BOOGrams, and Trunk or Treat! October was jam packed with fun things to do and November is shaping up to be just as much fun!
We are blown away by the response to our BOOGrams fundraiser! Thank you! We sold so many BOOGrams that now we have to figure out whether we buy more Spirit Sticks or try something new! Keep an eye on the PTO FB group to see sneak peeks of new options when they’re available.
This week, our biggest fundraiser of the year kicked off. We’re pleased to be partnering again with APEX for our annual Fun Run! Apex is a leadership program that focuses on developing student self-control, decision making and interpersonal skills vital for both school and life success. We’re hoping to succeed in getting pledges from ALL 50 STATES! Which states can your family help get pledges from? Anybody got a great aunt or uncle or grandparent in Alaska or Hawaii? Who knows Dorothy and Toto in Kansas? SAVE THE DATE! Our Apex Fun Run is scheduled for 5 Nov. Would you like to help cheer on your student when they run? As long as we’re outside, the Apex Fun Run is open to all spectators! If the weather forces us inside, spectators won’t be permitted, but we will share some pictures in the FB group, as well
as try to go LIVE on FB for a part of each run. A final run schedule isn’t yet available, but we’ll publish it as soon as we know it so you can make plans. Additionally, we’ll try to publish the character lessons to the FB group each day so you can learn more and talk with your student about what they’re learning.
SAVE THE DATE! Salsarita’s at Southpoint II is hosting our November PTO Spirit Night on 9 Nov. Check out your student’s weekly newsletter, the PTO social media pages, or the school’s Twitter account for more information. Once again, you can order online and pickup using the code “FUNDRAISER” or tell the cashier you’re eating at Salsarita’s to support the Cedar Forest PTO! Invite the family to join you! Once you finish dinner, please join us at our monthly PTO meeting that night in the school library.
Look for FB posts and watch this space for information on how you can help us with some fun appreciation for our staff in December. If you’re interested in participating in our Staff “Pick-Me-Up” Donations in 2022, please reach out to us via cedarforestPTO@gmail.com. We have openings for January through May.
Thank you for your support of the CFES PTO! Without you, we couldn’t help our school!
Art Fundraiser
The Art fundraiser will be coming home next week. Please be on the lookout for a blue form in your student's classroom folder. I am excited to let you know that ordering online is fast and easy! The items will be sent to the school in early December. All money raised goes back to the Art department to buy supplies for our young artists!

Social Emotional Learning
November is a great reminder to practice gratitude! Did you know that gratitude is linked to happiness? “According to a 2008 study published in the Journal of School Psychology, grateful children tend to be happier, more optimistic, and have better social support. They also report more satisfaction with their schools, families, communities, friends, and themselves. Grateful kids also tend to give more social support to others as well.”

House Program
This month we held a house meeting and focused on including others. Ask your students about the activities they completed as part of the house meetings!
This week, the Blue House is in the lead! Take a moment to ask your student what house they are in, and how they show wolf pride at school!
