Dates to Remember

  • April 12-16: Spring Break **NO SCHOOL**

A Note from Our Principal

Dear North Beach Families:

Thank you for your support as we transitioned into our new hybrid model of school. As Ms. Hostetler said in our weekly announcements, some of us are at school, and some of us are learning online, but we are all Seals together. Our teachers and staff will continue to focus on meeting the needs of all students, whether they are returning to school in person or continuing to attend school online.

As the week went on, we worked through some technology issues and our arrival and dismissal times continued to improve. We are pleased with how well things are going so far. When students return from spring break, please remember that you will receive a text or email reminder to complete the attestation process and it will still be a daily requirement through the rest of the school year. Thank you so much for helping use get through this first week so smoothly!

Have a wonderful break. Stay safe and healthy!

From the Office

Attestation: please use your students email address when attesting. This is important for the report we pull in the morning to check students in.

The attestation forms can be filled out starting at 12:01AM of the day your student is coming to school. Please feel free to fill these out as early as you possibly can. We are checking these on a system for some 200+ students so it takes time. The earlier you fill them out, the better.

Also, If you haven’t already, please fill out and return the Consent to Return form for your student. Email it to the office at or print and return with your student. Forms can be found on Konstella.

Counselor’s Corner

Our students and families have been amazingly resilient this week as we all adjust to our new schedules! If your child is needing a little extra support around the changes, I am happy to meet with them. Just send me an e-mail at, and we’ll schedule a time for after Spring Break.

I also want to let families know that we are resuming our partnership with Ballard Foodbank to provide weekend meal packs to kids who could use food support at this time. Food packs arrive on Thursday at North Beach and can be sent home with children if they’re in person, or families can pick them up on Fridays if students are continuing in remote learning. To sign up, please just e-mail me at and let me know how many children are in your family and if they have any allergies or dietary restrictions.

Traveling Out of State for Spring Break?

Remember to quarantine for 7 days upon return and obtain a negative Covid test within 7 days!

Gov. Jay Inslee has issued a travel advisory for Washington, recommending a 7-day quarantine for interstate and international travel and asks residents to stay close to home. It has taken a long time to get schools reopened safely. PLEASE follow CDC guidelines if you are traveling. Sending kids straight back to classes increases risk for all, and increases the likelihood of Covid-related closures. Now that we are reopening, Let’s stay open. Thanks for doing your part.

Build a New School!

The district doesn't just hand out funding. We need to be organized to make sure that North Beach is on the next capital funding levy. The next levy won't be on the ballot until February 2022, but the work to create the budget and outline the projects to put on the levy is happening NOW!

Join our team! The capital program oversight committee meets every month on the second Friday from 8:30-10:30. Volunteer to attend these meetings and report back. email:

Legislative Corner

The last official day of this legislative session is on April 25th - and the next weeks will be focused on passing a budget. Now is a great time to contact our legislators: Senator Carlyle, Rep Frame, and Rep Berry.

Both chambers have released and passed their versions of a two-year operating budget. Both budgets include the capital gains tax (SB 5096), signaling that Democrats expect the House to pass the bill and Gov. Inslee to sign it.

Here are some suggestions of where to spend your advocacy efforts. Personalize your email to you and your student(s) experience. Remember to state that you are a member of Washington State PTA, the state’s largest child advocacy organization.

  • Allow school districts to use all of the three rounds of federal funding they have received or will receive for purposes related to the pandemic, not as backfill to enrollment decline.
  • Stabilize all categories of enrollment decline with state support for school districts, providing a per-pupil amount so that all school districts benefit, and mid-year cuts are softened. This includes levy equalization and passing ESHB 1476 to protect local enrichment levy collections in at least the calendar year 2022.
  • Make a down payment on increasing staff to support student mental health and academic success, with the House investment in 0.5 school counselors for every prototypical school.
  • This was a promise made more than 10 years ago, and never has the time been more important to start phasing in the adults needed to support the varied needs of our students.
