CHARACTER STRONG

Character Strong is a student curriculum that focuses on fostering the whole child with lessons that teach social emotional learning and character side by side. This PDF document gives an explanation of the benefits of this curriculum, and the linked video gives first hand examples from students and school staff who have utilized Character Strong lessons in their own school community. Our goal is to use this curriculum to focus on building our students capacity to be caring and thoughtful people who understand how to interact socially at school, home and in the community.

SCHOOLOGY PARENT ACCESS CODES

Schoology is a tool the secondary building is transitioning to throughout the year that provides more detailed information and where students can access assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests that are done in class. Please note that Schoology is different from Skyward and Microsoft teams. Skyward will still be used to access grades, attendance, lunch account, etc. Teams will still be used for communication and video conferencing.

Parents have their own access code to their student’s schoology account. Each student has a unique parent access code, so if you have more than one student you will have a different access code for each student.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: Middle School students were given their parent access code, information about Schoology, and directions to access the parent account today in science class. If you have a middle school student they should have brought that home today, Friday, September 17.

HIGH SCHOOL: High school students will be getting it next week in homeroom.

SOCIAL MEDIA

We want to make parents aware that TikTok and other social media platforms are prone to “challenges” that often lead to destructive student behavior inside and outside of school. Monitoring your students social media use and talking to them about this behavior may help them in their decision making surrounding these challenges. When school property is destroyed or stolen we will discipline students appropriately for those actions.

BUS MASK REQUIREMENTS

Bus Mask Requirements:

All riders of student transportation are required to wear a mask at all times while riding a bus or other district transportation. This is not a school choice but a federal mandate that we are legally required to follow. Please remind your student of this requirement and we thank you in advance for your cooperation.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STAR TESTING 6TH-8TH GRADE

ROCORI Middle School students just finished up their first round of STAR Testing this past week. Middle School students will have 3 more rounds of STAR testing this school year. The next round of testing will be in November, then January and March.

Q: What are Star Assessments?

A: Star Assessments are short tests that provide teachers with learning data. Star tests are computer adaptive, which means they adjust to each answer your child provides. This helps teachers get the best data to help your child in the shortest amount of testing time (about one-third of the time other tests take).

Your child may take a Star test for early literacy, math, reading, or other subjects of their teacher’s choice.

Q: What do teachers do with Star Assessments?

A: Teachers analyze the data they get from Star Assessments to learn what students already know and what they are ready to learn next, to monitor student growth, and to determine which students may need additional help. Star Assessments are heavily researched and scientifically proven to help teachers guide each student on his or her unique path to mastery.

Q: What do Star Assessments do for my child?

A: By pinpointing exactly what your child knows, teachers can personalize your child’s practice to keep them growing. Plus, short test times ensure your child spends more time learning and less time testing.
