SPRING BREAK ~ NO SCHOOL ~ MARCH 11 - 15
From Mr. Martin
School Calendar Adjustments due to Snow Days
As a result of this season's inclement weather and our responsibility to meet the state of Kansas' requirements for hours completed during the school year, the following adjustments to our calendar are necessary (pending no additional inclement weather days):
April 22 - Full day of school (originally no school as a result of professional development)
May 22 - Full day of school (originally a 1/2 day of school)
May 23 - Full day of school (originally no school if there was no inclement weather). Last day of school for Kindergarten and 8th grade students.
May 24 - 1/2 day of school (originally no school if there was no inclement weather). On May 24, lunch will be served. Dismissal times are as follows: Grades 1-4 - 12:30 pm. Grades 5-11 - 12:00pm. Grades K, 8, 12 - No school.
Please know that your child's principal will be in touch with additional details related to finals schedule, award ceremonies, end-of-year activities, field trips, etc. GEHS graduation will remain on May 18, 2019.
If your child is going to be absent on any of the days listed above due to an already planned activity, please work with your building's principal to make arrangements.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

MINDSET MOMENT: Beautiful things happen when you distance yourself from negativity.
From Nurse Rhea:
As a reminder, USD 231 follows all Johnson County Health and Environment Disease and Symptom Exclusion Recommendations. For physician diagnosed cases of influenza we will exclude the student for 7 days following the onset of illness. This will be followed for ALL DIAGNOSED cases. If there is a doctors note allowing the student to return earlier than the seven day timeline, and if Tamiflu or other similar medication was taken, the student will still be excluded for the entirety of the seven day timeline. Please call the office to let the attendance secretary know your student was diagnosed and will be absent, and send in documentation of the diagnosis as soon as possible. These absences will be excused for illness. Thank you for understanding our attempts to keep our schools as healthy as possible!
***Immunization Requirements are changing for the 2019-2020 school year.***
If you are the parent of a current 6th grade student, please be advised that in addition to the already required Tdap vaccine, your student will also be required to have one dose of the Meningococcal vaccination. This is a state guideline, please feel free to read more about it here.
