Media Center Update

December 2020

Happy December!

It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of 2020! While the pandemic has made many things about this year uncertain, what is certain is that there is no limit to the great programs the Media Center has to offer! This month's newsletter brings info on the Media Center Zoom, a new virtual stickerboard, our first "Take and Make" craft kit, and some "unplugged" coding activities just in time for Computer Science Education Week! Oh, and of course, NEW BOOKS!

Media Center Zoom now available!

The Media Center now has its own Zoom available to all students and staff! Feel free to join at the link below if you need help with research, citations, searching for a title in Destiny Discover or Sora, using Swank streaming, or anything else Media Center related.

The Media Center is taking online requests only, so if you are interested, please fill out this form by Friday, December 11! Students: once your kit is assembled, you will receive an email that it is ready for pickup outside the Main Office. You can order multiple kits for younger siblings, too! Staff: your kits will be delivered to your classrooms or mailboxes. If you have any questions about the kit, please email Mrs. Miceli at

Anyone can code during Computer Science Education Week!

I don't know about you, but I could definitely use some time AWAY from my screens! December 7-13 is Computer Science Education Week, and we have some great coding activities available that do not require a device. Think computer science or coding is not your thing? Take a look at these three "unplugged" activities from Google and you might be surprised how much coding you already do in your daily life. Then join Mrs. Miceli on the Media Center Zoom on Wednesday, December 9 @ 1:00pm for an "unplugged" Hour of Code!

Activity 1: Network a neighborhood

Activity 2: Encode an emoji

Activity 3: Send a secret message

New Books

Just because we are remote learning doesn't mean you don't have access to great reads! Below are just a few selections of our newest additions to the Sora app. Many are available as both an ebook and audiobook, so you can read (or listen) to your heart's content!
