PEOPLE CAN SEE ANYTHING -La gente puede ver todo
Seniors are beginning the process of applying to colleges--researching schools, refining essays, taking SAT/ACT tests, collecting glowing recommendations, and even preparing for a campus interview. You have made a great impression as a serious, promising college student, but have you carefully reviewed your blogs?
Social Media, such as Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook, are posted for the public view. So give your student’s posts a second look to make sure you both feel comfortable sharing the posted information with an admission officer. Most colleges are not surfing the Web for your profile, but colleges have been known to deny admission to a student due to inappropriate information and/or pictures on a student’s sites.
Does your student know what career he/she wants to pursue after high school? The ASVAB test can help students decide their future goals. The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a multi-aptitude test, consisting of 8 short individual tests covering Work Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, General Science, Mechanical Comprehension, Electronics Information, Numerical Operations, and Coding Speed. There is no passing/failing the test. It is for informational use only.
Deciding which college, trade school or military branch to pursue are key career decisions. The ASVAB results can help in making that decision. The results provide information on their readiness for advanced academic education and what careers they might want to pursue.
The ASVAB test is free and takes approximately 3 hours. The results are sent back to the school. The military DOES NOT receive any test results for students whose parents opted them out at the beginning of the year. A follow-up using an Exploring Careers Workbook can help students figure out what careers might best suit that individual.
The test, (available to sophomores, juniors and seniors) will be given December 7, 2016, and will start at 1:45. The test will take place in room C12. Students who do not drive will either need to ride the activity bus or be picked up once they complete the test. Students need to sign up in the SUMMIT Career Center by December 6, 2016. If you have any questions or would like to sign your student up, please call Wendy Herman in the SUMMIT Career Center at 541-387-5034 ext. 1, or e-mail wendy.herman@hoodriver.k12.or.us.
1, o mandar un correo eléctrico a wendy.herman@hoodriver.k12.or.us.
