Message from the Principal

Hello Prairie Families,

Thank you to many of you who came to Prairie for conferences and the book fair. Our teachers enjoyed sharing the progress our learners are making with you! Our Pumas did a fantastic job at the talent show dress rehearsal and are eager to showcase their art and talent this evening! I hope to see you there! We're wishing Ms. Hernandez the best as she transitions into substitute teaching for a variety of schools in our district and at the same time, we'd like to welcome back Mrs. Szuslik, our reading interventionist who has been out on maternity leave. Best of luck, Ms. Hernandez!

Have a great weekend!

Carly Solberg

Staff Highlight

Greetings from the Art Room! My name is Mrs. Anderson. I am an Art teacher at Prairie and Banting Elementary Schools. I have been teaching Art for almost 25 years now. I have taught at the High School, Middle School and Elementary School levels. Beside teaching, I like to coach extra-curricular activities as a way of getting to know kids better. I have coached in a few Varsity Girls Soccer programs, Middle School Cross Country, Track, & Ski Club, and Elementary School Cross Country and Swim Teams.

I am married and have 2 kids, Tucker, 20 and Kalli , 17. My husband recently returned from Afghanistan, where he was serving his 3rd deployment. We also have 2 very active German Short Hairs and frequently have foster dogs visiting us.

In my free time I like to hike, ski, run, swim, kayak, camp, boat, fish, canoe, bike…just about anything outdoors. I also love to be creative and work in the shop with my husband. We like to scour salvage yards and old farms for scrap metal parts so we can design and weld sculptures with the “treasures” we find. Last summer, I had the adventure of a lifetime. I was able to live in Singapore for 2 months and watch my daughter work. It was great to be immersed in a different culture, but Singapore is a long, long, long way from home!

When I grow up, I want to play on the US Women’s National Soccer Team, or be like Joanna Gaines, or be a professional photographer, or a jeweler, or an architect, or a cake decorator, or a florist, or…

Step it Up

A big thank you to all Prairie families for helping our school during the Step It Up for Heart Fundraiser. Our students have worked hard to help others with sick hearts.

Last night, over sixty 3rd-5th grade jumpers participated in our after school jumping event. The students had an opportunity to be with friends, show off their new jump rope skills and get a great workout for their own special heart. A great time was had by all.

A BIG thank you to the following:

  • The PTA for providing funds to purchase healthy snacks for the jumpers.

  • To Mrs. Solberg for supporting our event.

  • To all parents/guardians for supporting their students.

  • To all the Prairie staff members who helped out at the event.

  • To Mrs. Flannigan from Step It Up.

  • To Mrs. Anderson for being Mrs. Anderson - Always willing to help in any way.

Artists of the Month

February's Artists of the Month are 1st grader, Kylie Smith, and 4th grader, Cullen Streator. Both students are excellent examples of how hard work, focus and persistence pay off. Congratulations Kylie & Cullen!

As we have hit the halfway point of the year, many parents are receiving attendance letters from our office. These letters are generated automatically through Infinite Campus when your child hits either 10 days of tardiness or 5 days absent (any or all of a day), and are intended to keep you informed of your child's attendance. Upon exceeding 10 days of absences (any or all of a day), you may be required to submit a doctor's note for any future absences to avoid the absence being marked as truant. In that case, you would again be informed in writing.

We encourage you to get a doctor's note for any medical or dental appointment your child may have requiring any absence from school. A "medically excused" absence does not count in the total number of days absent. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office.
