January 19, 2018- We hosted Marble Falls last Friday for our second round district game. The Lady Panthers made several adjustments to better match up against the undefeated leader of District 26. The girls worked hard the entire game, but there was no stopping the talent and size of Marble Falls.
The JV and Freshman both won.

January 17, 2018- Tuesday's district game against Boerne Champion was rescheduled and played Wednesday evening in Boerne. The varsity played a close game against the Chargers, only being down by three at the half. The Lady Panther's couldn't keep up in the third, however, being outscored 16 to 9. They managed to narrow the gap in the fourth quarter, but not enough to overcome the deficit. Overall, Coach Holladay was pleased with the effort from the ladies and the second meeting between the two teams compared to the first.

January 9, 2018- The Lady Panthers traveled to Dripping Springs Tuesday evening for their first game since returning to school from winter break. All three teams prepared for the very good Lady Tigers, but couldn't come out on top in any of the three match-ups.

Varsity Boys
The varsity boys basketball team lost last week to Alamo Heights. Friday the team traveled to Marble Falls and fell in a close game by 13. On Tuesday January 23rd at home the team played Kerrville Tivy and lost another close game. The team is playing hard but finding wins hard to come by in district play. Friday January 26th the teams travel to Seguin.
JV boys
January 23, 2018- Medina Valley boys JV basketball team played at home last night against Kerrville Tivy to start the second round of district. After going winless the first round, the Panthers needed to start off on a positive note. The Panthers trailed after 3 quarters 36-28. However, after a shut down quarter on the defensive end, the boys came back to win in the final seconds on a jumper by Joseph Arriaga to give the Panthers a 41-38 victory. Cory Thomas led the way with 18 points by going 8-10 from the Free Throw line. Alek Child contributed 10 points. PJ Gorden and Jose Rodriguez both played outstanding defense and controlled the glass collecting key rebounds in the last few minutes. Congratulations to the boys as they got their 1st District win of the season. The boys look to continue their winning ways on Friday as they travel to Seguin.

January 23, 2018- On Tuesday night the Freshmen boys basketball team played the Kerrville Tivy squad. They had a difficult time scoring in the first half and ended up losing 42-27. They played in Marble Falls last Friday and the score was tied at halftime 24-24. They ended up on top in this one after scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter. The final score was 55-48. Andrew Alonzo finished with 16 in the game. They also played last Tuesday against the Boerne Champion Chargers. They were down 39-18 at halftime and ended up losing 69-36. The team will travel to Seguin on Friday, with 6 games left on their schedule

Harlandale Tournament
The Medina Valley Boys’ Soccer team played 4 games in the Harlandale Tournament. The Panthers played well over the 4 games, finishing with 3 wins and 1 loss. On Friday MV beat Sam Houston 7-2. Scoring for the Panthers; Jesus Conchas-2, Dorian Downes-2, Austin Pinedo-1, Jacob Castro-1 and there was an own goal. Assists: Austin Pinedo-2, Gustavo Salas-2, Jorge Ramirez-1, Cade Thayer-1. Payton Salzman was in the goal and had 1 save. Next up the Panthers faced off with Harlandale, but were unable to get things going. The Panthers lost 4-0. On Saturday, the Panthers started the day with a 6-0 win over Somerset. Scoring for the Panthers; Cade Thayer-2, Dorian Downes-2, Jesus Conchas-1, Gustavo Salas-1. Assists; Jesus Conchas-3, Cade Thayer-1, Dorian Downes-1, Jose Suarez-1. The Panthers recorded their 1st shut-out of the season. Defensive standouts; Clayton Vogel, Reinen Garcia, Case Henrich, Cristian Garcia, Taylor Davidson, and our goalie, Payton Salzman. The final game of the tournament was a close contest against McCollum. The game was tied 2-2 and the Panthers were fighting for the go ahead goal. Dorian Downes netted the winner with 7 minutes remaining on the clock. Scoring for the Panthers; Cade Thayer-1, Gustavo Salas-1, Dorian Downes-1. Assists; Gustavo Salas-2, Jesus Conchas-1. Payton Salzman was in the goal and had 7 saves. The Panthers finished the tournament in 2nd place.
January 10, 2018- Non-District
MV-1 @ Southside-4
The Varsity Boys soccer team faced off against Southside last night for a non-district match. Southside struck early, netting 2 goals in the first 5 minutes. Southside had a 3-0 lead at half. The Panthers came out in the second half and played better and were able to cut into Southside’s lead with a goal from Jesus Conchas and assists from Marcus Alaniz. The Panthers fought hard but weren’t able to close the gap any further. Panthers fall to Southside 4-1.

January 15, 2018- Fredericksburg @ MV
Fredericksburg traveled to Castroville to face off against the Panther’s boys’ Varsity soccer team. The Billies had a 2-0 advantage at halftime. The Panthers fought hard in the second half, but were unable to overcome some costly mistakes. Panthers fall to Fredericksburg 5-1.

Edgewood Tournament
Vs. Burbank & Somerset 1/11/18
The Panther JV soccer team travelled to Memorial high school to take part in the first day of the Edgewood tournament. The Panthers first faced Brackenridge high school. The Panthers went up early, 1-0 on an opportunistic goal by Marcos Conchas and carried the lead into half. Late in the second half, Brackenridge managed to equalize on a free kick, and the matched ended in a tie, 1-1.
For the second game of the tournament, Medina Valley faced the Somerset Bulldogs. The Panthers had a much better showing, getting an early goal in the first half, and then sealing the game on two second half goals, defeating the Bulldogs 3-0. Goal scorers for the game were Vicente Gonzales with 2 goals, and Brenden Carty with 1. Marcos Conchas and Leo Herrera both tallied an assist.
Vs. Kennedy 1/13/18
The JV Boys’ soccer team returned to Memorial high school Saturday to play the Kennedy Rockets in the Edgewood soccer tournament. The Panthers played a complete game, shutting out the Rockets 5-0 to win first place in the tournament. Scoring goals for the Panthers were Jose Rodriguez with 2, Angel Vasquez with 2 and Vicente Gonzales with 1. Lionel Perez, Gabriel Human, Angel Vasquez and Brenden Carty all tallied assists in the match.
January 15, 2018- The JV Boys’ soccer team played host to the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies Monday evening. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead on a Jaren Ramirez break-away goal and carried the lead into the half. Unfortunately, the lone goal wouldn’t be enough as the Billies fought back to take the lead with 2 second-half goals.
January 9, 2018- The boys’ JV soccer team faced off against Southside high school Tuesday night in their second match of the season. The Panthers had a slow start, and were looking at a 1-0 deficit going into half-time. Things looked bleak for the Panthers when the Cardinal boys found the back of the net again early in the second half to make their lead 2-0. The Panthers never gave up, and in a span of 5 minutes late in the second half, the boys scored 3 unanswered goals to take the lead and get their first win of the year. Gabe Human, Vicente Gonzales and Marcos Conchas all tallied goals for the Panthers, while Jacob Seay and Nathaniel Marasigan were credited with assists.

January 12-13, 2018- The girls varsity soccer team spent the weekend at the Rattler Roundup in San Marcos. The team finished 1-3 with the girls getting better as each game was played. Stand out players include Alee Schott, Victoria Duron, Ellie Smith, and Micky Martinez.
The Girls Soccer will continue play at Uvalde Friday, Jan. 26th. Come out and support your soccer team!

January 20, 2018- the Boys & Girls Powerlifting Teams competed at the Carrizo Springs Invitational.

January 18, 2018- The A team took the floor conquering the Lady Lobos 53 - 5 with quick offense and a solid defense. All 23 girls on both A and B teams contributed points to these wins. Great job girls. The Panthers will host the Bandera Bulldogs this Thursday. Good luck girls and Go Panthers Go!!!

January 13, 2018- The 8th grade girls A Team competed Saturday, in their last tournament of the season as they traveled to La Vernia. The Panthers blew past the Jourdanton Squaws in the first round. They then met up with Mountain Valley Hawks for the easy win and headed onto the Championship game to compete against the Poth Pirates. The Points were as follows:

Last night, the 8th grade Lady Panthers traveled to Uvalde to take on the Lady Lobos. The B team dominated the court first, winning their game 60 - 3 with very aggressive defense

January 13, 2018- The 8th Grade B team played tournament hosts La Vernia in the first-morning game on Saturday, winning 39-19. Going into the second game, the girls knew they were fighting for the 1st place trophy. The took on the Jourdanton Lady Squaws and dominated the court, winning 30-8. Way to bring home that first place trophy, Ladies!

7A Girls
January 18, 2018- The 7th Grade A Team found it tough in the beginning with Uvalde as we missed many shots off and backboard and layups. The girls had to regroup and begin mentally and fundamentally outplay the Lobos to pull away with a victory 27-18 despite many missed shots. Leading the Panthers to victory were Haylee Hurtado 8 pts, Paiten Trowbridge 8 pts, Kelli Harlow 7 pts, Jenna Boehme 2 pts, Onica Hawkins and Elyssa Reyna 1 pt each. Great Job Ladies!!
January 13, 2018- The 7th Grade A Basketball Team traveled to La Vernia for a tournament. The girls dominated in the first round against Jourdanton winning 50-14. After a long break and feeling tired, the Panthers played Mountain Valley. This game proved to be challenging for the girls because of the 4 hour break trying to focus back on the game. The Panthers defeated Mountain Valley 23-17to advance to the championship round against a tough and quick Poth team. Once again this game had a 3 hour wait before playing but the girls fought hard and came out in second place losing to Poth 27-37. Overall, the Panther girls showed a lot of improvement in many areas of basketball fundamentally. Here are the stats from the tournament.

January 11, 2018-Last Thursday the 7th Grade girls A Team basketball played Hondo. The Panthers came out dominating the first half with a score of 20-6. In the second half, Hondo’s defense begin to pressure the Panther’s offense but it was not enough to stop MV from winning 38-26. Leading scorers for the Panthers were Paiten Trowbridge with 10 pts, Iliana Garcia 8pts, Kelli Harlow 5 pts, Haylee Hurtado 4pts, Elyssa Reyna 4 pts, Onica Hawkins, Aimee Tanglio, and Julia Guzman 2 pts each, and Karli Clark 1 pt.
7B Girls
January 18, 2018- The 7th Grade Girls B Team traveled to Uvalde last Thursday and were able to dominate the Lobos from the very beginning wining 26-12. Leading scorers for the B Team were Payton Keller with 6 pts, Jordan Blackwell 6 pts, Vivian Ortega 6 pts, Samira Loy 3 pts, Gabriella Ortiz, Sierra Estrada, and Ciara Brown 2 pts each, and Daniella Guevara 1 pt. Great job Girls!!
January 11, 2018- The 7th grade girls B Team showed great improvement fundamentally beating Hondo 26-11. Leading the way for the Panthers were Ciara Brown with 12 pts, Gabriella Ortiz and Sierra Estrada 4 pts each, Vivian Ortega, Daniella Guevara, and Liliana Cortez 2 pts each.

January 20, 2018- Bandera Tournament
7A team faced off against Hondo in the first game of the tournament. Even though the Panthers fought hard they could not gain the edge over the Owls. The Panthers would lose the game moving to the consolation bracket. The Panthers faced Comfort the 2nd game and were too much for Comfort to handle. The Panthers would move on to win and secure 3rd place in the tournament.
7B faced off against Hondo the first game for the forth time this season. The Panthers still proved to be the better team and would secure their spot in the championship game. Another part of the B team played a game against Bandera. The first half was a close fight but the Panthers would prove they wanted the win more. Almost every Panther scored in victory against Bandera. 7B would move on to the Championship against Natalia. Natalia took an early lead against the Panthers that made the Panthers sweat. But after a timeout the Panthers got their heads in straight and took the lead back and never looked back. The Panthers would go on to win the championship for the 2nd weekend in a row! Alfonso Reyes was named tornament MVP. Way to go Panthers!
January 18, 2018- 7A faced off agains the Uvalde Coyotes Thursday evening at home. The rivelry showed early in a very hard fought game on both sides. Both teams held on to leads through out the game but never lasted very long. It came down to the finals seconds but just didn’t work out for the Panthers and Uvalde took the victory.
7B played a great all around game Thursday against Uvalde. Every player on the team either had a score or assist. The Panthers never looked back after taking a commanding lead against the Coyotes and took home another W.
January 13, 2018- Hondo Tournament
7A team had a tough battle against Devine the first game of the tournamnet. Unfortunately the Warhorses would win the game bumping the Panthers to the cousulation bracket. 7A would beat the Bandera Bulldogs to claim 3rd place in the tournament.
7B faces Devine the first game and had a tough battle the 1st half. However in the 2nd half the Panthers came out strong and took the win against Devine. In the championship game the Panthers faced Hondo for the 3rd time this season. Though the Owls played hard they could not hang with the Panthers. 7B won 1st place in the Hondo tournament. Way to go Panthers!
