A message from the principal
It is hard to believe we are in the final trimester of the school year. As I type this, the sun is shining and the snow is finally beginning to melt. It sure has been a long winter, so I am grateful warmer weather is finally arriving. Looking ahead, there are a lot of things happening in the next few months. Within the building, staff are making extra efforts to build relationships. This includes intentionally connecting with students in other classes and/or grades. We believe the more caring adults we can surround children with, the more connected, safe and welcome they will feel here at school. Planting has already started in the greenhouse, MCA testing will begin soon, and Track & Field Day is just around the corner. We are all looking forward to an exciting third trimester!
MCA Assessments
Soon, our students in third through fifth grades will be taking the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) in math and reading. Fifth grade students also take the science test. The dates are as follows:
Reading
Grade 3 - 4/18 & 4/19
Grade 4 - 4/19 & 4/20
Grade 5 - 4/18 & 4/19
Math
Grade 3 - 4/25 & 4/26
Grade 4 - 4/26 & 4/27
Grade 5 - 4/25 & 4/27
Science
Grade 5 Only - 5/1
It is important to try to minimize planned absences, such as trips and appointments, on these dates. We understand sometimes this is unavoidable, but appreciate your mindfulness of these dates. Additionally, please help your child plan for success by helping them get plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast on test days. Thank you for your support as we approach our MCA testing window!
Kindergarten Welcome Night
We will be welcoming our incoming kindergarten students on the evening of Thursday, April 13th. Details for this event are in the works and are being sent to families of students entering kindergarten. We are looking forward to meeting our brand new Huskies!
CBPA School Specialty Night

CBPA Track and Field Day - Friday, May 26, 2023
We are already beginning to get questions about Track and Field Day. Please see the message below from our PE team for basic early information.
Before we know it, it will be time for Track and Field Day!!
We won’t have enough room for all families and friends to attend the Opening Ceremonies in the gymnasium from 9:30-9:45 am so we are asking that all families and friends attending T&F to wait outside at your student/athlete’s first event location. The first event for grades 3-5 will begin at 10:20 am. The first event for grades K-2 will begin at 10:20 am. Schedules for K-2 events, 3-5 events, and the event map will be provided as the event day approaches.
More specifics and information is forthcoming. We are looking forward to this event!

Yearbooks
We are also starting to get questions about yearbook orders. The vendor, timeline and format for yearbooks will be different this year. Stay tuned for more information!
Muslim students and families to observe Ramadan in March and April
The observance of Ramadan occurs during the ninth month of the islamic calendar by Muslims worldwide as a time of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. The 2023 observance began on March 22 and is expected to end April 20. Muslims in our schools and around the world will be fasting for 30 days from dawn to sunset, forgoing food and water the entire time of Ramadan.
This information is being shared to ensure staff are aware of the timing and potential impact of fasting on students and/or staff. Muslims may wake up early and stay up late for prayer and nourishment during this time. Please encourage understanding and empathy toward fasting students and keep lines of communication open and supportive of student and family needs.
Fasting students may request or be offered accommodations during Ramadan, including spending lunchtime away from the cafeteria or saving treats from celebrations to bring home.
Ramadan ends with a major Muslim holiday, Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” which is expected to be observed on Friday, April 21 and or Saturday, April 22. This is a time of celebration that may include morning activities and a community celebration. Food, games and presents for children are also typically included with the festivities.
Thank you for your understanding and support of fasting Muslim students in our schools during this time.
