Mrs. Baker's Class Newsletter
November 10th-
What is going on?
Writing: Students will continue writing letters. This week we will focus on writing a letter to persuade.
Spelling Words and Grammar: around, dear, eyes, found, jump, new, set, too
We will be learning about commas and capital letters this week as they apply to letter writing.
Reading: We will will continue to review expectations and the purpose for Reading Workshop. Each day, we will review how to respond after reading our nonfiction books to show our teacher we deeply understand what we are reading.
Math: Students will complete a Thanksgiving project that allows them to use all of their math skills we have learned to this point. There will be several challenge options available for those kiddos who really want to test their skills!
Science: Students will investigate the effects on an object by increasing or decreasing amounts of light, heat, and sound energy such as how the color of an object appears different in dimmer light or sound changes with different vibrations.
Please wear red, white, or blue for our Veterans Day Assembly tomorrow. Have my kids drop off their backpack on the porch before school. It is going to be crowded in the cafe.
We earned another Electronics Fun Friday! The kids are doing very very well! I am really proud of all their hard work, especially with the PBL projects! My heart is full and happy!
Six Flags Read to Succeed! We make a class goal for every student in the class to complete this log to earn a free ticket to Six Flags! It is easy because we already read every night! I am sending home two logs! Keep one in a safe place, for when you cannot find the other! I want to collect them by Feb. 13th. We really get excited when everyone in our class earns a ticket!
Donations Needed:
We used a lot of my supplies for our PBL projects- If you could donate small science fair boards, letters, poster making supplies, sticker letters, stuff like that! We will be set for our next projects. Thank you!

Veterans' Day Celebration:
We will hold our annual Veterans' Day Assembly next Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:40 am in the cafeteria. All veterans from our families & communities are invited as our special guests. A reception honoring these heroes will be held in the library after the assembly. We would also like to celebrate veterans by including their pictures on our Veterans' Wall of Honor. All pictures are due by this Friday, Nov. 4. Veterans' Day Assembly RSVP: https://goo.gl/GN3dlp
If you are, are related to, or have an important person or people in your life that is an active duty, retired or reserve service member, please use the templates located on our school website to have them included on this years Honor Wall. Link is listed below. If you don’t have a picture, please use the portion of the template that bears the symbol of the member’s branch of service.
Please return the page, or pages, by NOVEMBER 4TH to your child’s teacher so that they can be added to our Honor Wall. Please do not send in original photographs. Students, staff and visitors to Sommer will be able to see and touch the wall and we do not want to damage a piece of your family’s history.
